my vote for the ones i personally own would be endlis.
i love the reddish brown coloration and the stripes.
btu for those i dont own,it'd be either palmas butti or p.palmas.

small ones- Buettikoferi--like a yellow colored palmas palmas i personally think they look better then the palmas palmas....just beautiful!

larger ones- Oranates--hard to beat for straight up beauty as their checker patter yellows and blues are just amazing some timesp

Favorite look- Lap--i don't know what it is about these guys but they just get big and muscular looking and have a look of power.

P. palmas has three subspecies.

P. palmas polli is VERY active.

The other two, P. palmas buettikoferi and P. palmas palmas, not so much. they have their moments of activity, but usually are more of the laid back type that like to hide or sit there and look pretty.

I tried to search for pics, but can't seem to run into all 3.

Also, how can I tell the diff when I go to a lfs? What am I looking for?
There is a place near me that has Palmas, but I want to know what kind I'm looking at

It's easy to tell palmas plamas apart from polli palmas. Palmas has black band down their body like delhezi if kept in dark substrate. They're more yellow and green than most bichirs. Polli palmas has a fat belly and pointy head. As for identifying Buettikoferi you're on your own on this one. Goodluck because I couldn't tell the difference between a buettikoferi from Palmas palmas. There are palmas palmas pic on this thread already on page 1. Here is a polli palmas for reference. Palmas is a commonly mislabel fish at the fish store for lapradei, retropenis, and weeksii. If it's really a palmas, send me a PM on the location of this store.

fishgonewild, that palmas palmas appears to be a palmas buettikoferi....might just look like one since i havent checked ray count or anything, but it looks like one to me.

Nope, it's definitely a palmas palmas. Oddest thing about this specy of fish is that their black bar intensify when I placed them in my gravel tank. At first I thought it was a buettikoferi too but they turned green and has dark black bar when I put them in my gravel tank. That's why I said it's so hard to tell buettikoferi and palmas palmas.
