Which tank would you pick?

Very tough call indeed... i guess it depends on how beat the surfaces of the tank are... if they are both reasonably beat up, then maybe the acrylic tank coz you can buff the scratches out and it could be as good as new, on the other hand, if they are both in pretty good condition, then probably the glass tank due to the large size...

Well, glass is much more durable, and much easier to clean with out scratching it, but it does weigh a lot more. Acrylic is much lighter, but scratches easier. Its really all up to your personal choice. I myself prefer glass. My biggest glass tank is 450 gallons and weighs almost 800 lbs empty. I have acrylic tanks too that I like.

i think acrylic is more durable

Acrylic should last you longer too, i worry about glass leaking. Silicone isn't strong. Chemical fusing between acrylic is

I know a lot of people say acrylic is more durable, and I would certainly agree to a point, but I remember instances like moving my buddy's 90 gal acrylic to another room and it was a bit "wobbly" and stress cracked along 2 seams just like that. And his tank was only maybe a year or so old. Its a question for the ages. Personal prefrence. I have been working with acrylic for years (I'm a plastics engineer) and sometimes I am astonished by its weak resistance to common chemicals as well, but it is plastic, and plastic is chemical compound with limits just as anything. I know glass as well is not a "true" solid and will continue to settle for its lifespan and can create a "ripple" effect over the years.

What about the fact that the 240g is 3/4" thick acrylic? Does it being that thick make it better quality than a standard glass tank of the same volume?

240

Just based on setting the tank up, I would go 210...the glass on the 240 will be a pain. Plus you get more stuff and delivery

We are only talking about a 30 gallon differance here between the two. Both types have pros and cons. If the acrylic is a better bargin, I'd say go with that. If you really want that extra 30 gallons, then go with that one. Its really a horse a piece. Both sound like a decent deal. The fact that the acrylic is 3/4" doesnt mean a better quality. Arcylic is weaker that glass, so for bigger tanks you need thicker acrylic to compensate for the water psi. Acrylic "bows" more so the added thickness is needed. Nothing wrong with that tho, its normal. A tank that size out of glass would be 3/8-1/2" thick cause its a bit stronger and able to handle the psi better. Honestly, just go with the better bargin.
