Which tank would you pick?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I say go with the acrylic. Sure, glass is harder to scratch and the tank is larger, but you will be cussing yourself when you pick it up.

That, and the sump makes it worth it. I dont know what you are wanting to do with it, as a sump is awful for say... a planted fresh, but they are good for anything else IMO.

Acrylic is also has a better clarity to it, unless the tank is built out of starfire glass, which I am 99.9% sure it isnt at that price.

Tough decision but i would personally take the 240g glass tank.
30 extra gallons sounds pretty sweet to me.

8' tank hands down. It has that 'wow' factor. If she says size doesn't matter, she's lying!

I just carried a glass 210 with one friend, and it wasn't that bad.

GLASS. No scratching. If by good brand and hasn't been resealed or abused it will last decades.

I currently have a 240 and I will go against the grain and say get the acrylic. You may decide to move the 240 in the future and it wont be possible without 4 folks struggling. I have moved mine three times. The last 2 times I paid a moving company. The extra 2' is nice, but it can be over kill imo. If you are looking for the wow factor then the 240 would be the best bet. Make sure your house isn't too small though. A tank that size can make a big room look small in a hurry.

if $ is tite go for the acrylic cuz pumps for that size arnt cheap...i wud want the 240gal tho jus bcuz more room is alwayz nice

I respectfully disagree here. many of us have had glass tanks last 20+ years on the original seals..if properly made a siliconed glass tank is very strong and will last for decades.

I would go with the glass one easily.

yes, it will be a pain to move. my 165g is over 300 pounds but unless you move often, you set the tank in place and it sits there for 20 years.

if you move often you might want to consider a smaller setup IMO.

I enthusiastically agree with 12 Volt Man, even though I have not the tenure with glass tanks as 12 Volt Man possibly has, but I will say this though.

I have purchased 5 used 55 gallon tanks, owned by others for 10+ years when I had purchased them. I had them for an additional 10 years all on the original seals. I had nothing but personal enjoyment from them. I still enjoy having glass tanks.

I now have a 110 gallon in my small but humble home. A friend and I moved it into my house without regret or physical stamina issues. Yes, I agree with 12 Volt Man, in that it will be heavy to move the glass tank in question. But once you become the owner of it, I doubt you'll regret purchasing it.

But before you purchase it and move it into your house, decide where it will be going before you move it in. Be sure that is where you want it, as it should be there for a long time, once it is set up. The less it is moved around, the less chance of something happening to the tank when it must be moved.

It's no big deal if it does not come with a sump filtration system. It comes with accessories that would be hard to locate and purchase them new, if you had to buy them because all you got with the deal was a tank. I am looking to purchase a new lighting system and it's going to run $500.00 for purchase cost with shipping and handling alone.

So my final choice and advise to you, is to purchase the glass tank. I hope this has helped with your decission on your tank purchase. I wish you much success in your plausible marketing decission.
