i'm looking at getting my first ugly stick soon
i'm thinking i want to do some catfishing, but i also would like a nice heavy duty rod for all around larger fish(larger bass, stripers, cats, carp etc) that i can use for live and prepared baits(what i've been using 98% of the time) but also for maybe casting some lures. i looked at (4) rods, spinning rods since they're two piece.
#1 is 8'6" long med action
#2 is 7' med-heavy
#3 is 6'6" med
#4 is 7' med-light
i'm really leaning towards #1 because i like the length for casting and such but i don't know how well it'd stand up to cats in the range i'd like to start hunting for (20lbs+ btw, my biggest was a 12lb channel caught on a crappy 6' med spinning rod) which makes me think more of the 7' med-heavy but i still would like to enjoy the flexibility of a longer rod. opinions for good spinning reels would be nice as well, i want a well balanced rod but for the 8'6" rod it feels like a high-capacity reel like i want would likely weigh too much.
