i'm planning on two rods, currently in my trunk i've got 4 rods, one is a 7' light action(very light and sensitive, perfect for panfish & trout) a 6' medium action shakesphere mantis, a 6'6" medium-heavy action zebco(rather light rod) and a 6'6" heavy action master-spectra, but one of the guides is missing. except for the 7' pole, all the others aren't in very good condition so i'm working on replacing them. i'll have to look into that gatorback rod, since most of the fish i catch are on the smaller side, i like light rods. how tough is fireline? i'm looking for a abrasion resistant line with a small diameter, the water here is fairly murky but i still like being able to have a lot of line just encase i hook something big that i have to let run. all i've used is just cheap mono lines which worked fine in the streams and canals where i used to fish, but here i keep finding my line is getting all kinds of abrasions and cuts in it so i have to respool my reels after a couple trips.
i have noe experience with fireline but most braided lines are very abrashion resitant.

I love Shakespeare ugly stick rods . Even the small one holds great for good size peacock bass.

I imagine I am only person here with a ugly stick rod that is 2 pieces one slips into the other its 7 feet light and holds great.

thats why i'm getting the spinning rods rather than the spincasting rods, i'd love to get a nice bait casting reel but i need something i can pull apart and put in my car trunk.

Ugly Stik, a girl after my own heart. I have the seven med-heavy, I use it for everything. I wouldn't use anything else. It takes abuse.

yea i was looking at the 7' medium heavy, but it isn't two piece, so i can't get it. however i did find a 8'6" spin casting one that is medium heavy, i think its perfect, althought it would be a bit awkard to fish in tight quarters, but like i said, i have yet to find a place to fish for larger fish that would be anywhere near crowded.

i have another question, spinning or baitcasting? i've always used spinning setups, even when i was first learning, but i'm not sure which would be better for the type of fishing i want to do. it seems like i'm seeing baitcasting rigs being used almost exclusively on tv. which one would hold more line?

Yes they are great for car trunk break down to 3.5 feet and after you put them together a strong 6.5 ft rod.

I used it today but caught bass size of goldfish lol . However have caught very large fish on it.

I have no idea what rod is used for what nor does that concern me lol.
I fish by my own rules not this technical mumbo jumbo which is why when everyone around me is catching large peacock bass I dont even get a bite :WHOA:.

Right pic is the smallest thin Shakespeare 4 ft than ugly stick on left.

I'm getting either a 6'6" or 7'0" ultralight Ugly Stik tomorrow. I mostly fish trout in small rivers/lakes/creeks though. It's two pieces as well. I've never been a fan of the poles over 7' as I fish tight spots.

i'd love an ultralight rod, i've had two and i loved panfishing with them, and i used to fish small creeks too, but there are none here, unless you count irrigation canals which don't have fish in them. until the end of summer, i'd never had a rod over 6'6", since they were plenty for what i fished(mostly panfish, trout and small bass, rarely anything over a pound)

Me to I like small things when I fish lol. My wife actually uses a large 8 foot fishing rod but she fishes for about 5 minutes than goes inside.

I caught few good size bass today by my brother in laws house but realized the rods are limited as we saw a monster of a fish think called a snook it looked like a grouper.

The rod couldnt hold it if I had caught it .

Casting
for catfishin i would go with a berkly glowstik, for night fishing. For line power pro, fireline just dosnt hold up to rocks as well as power pro. Reel would be some kind of abu garcia.

Spinning
a heavy rod with a glowing tip, and a large pflueger president spinning reel spooled with power pro.
