I love fishing for Carp....I just dont release (Carp eat the eggs of other fish so I feed them to some Raccoons near where I fish), I think Carp put up the best fight in North America pound for pound.

they are good fighters, but not the best pound for pound...the lake sturgeon has everything i have ever caught beat...the main problem carp cause is the ruting and destruction of spawning sites for fish...and their beds are 4' across...they distroy alot of good fishing...that being said i love to catch them and they are fantastic fert for the garden and this year i will start cubing some out for my fish food...

I read an article several years ago, and they did an experiment where they had two ponds, one with carp and other warmwater species (lmb and bluegill I believe) and one with just bass and bluegill. The pond with carp actually grew bigger fish than the one without!

I almost always release them, unless I need some fresh catfish bait ;)I don't really have a problem with people killing them, but it sucks when they leave them right there on the shoreline and they stink up the place.

In the last few years, carp have become a more and more popular flyrod target around here. It seems that every yuppie out there is trying to jump on the carp fishing bandwagon, even though they all used to call them trash fish lol.

While we're on carps....I love carp, fishing them and eating them. Back then my family and my relatives used to go multiply times during the summer to fish them. While there are better tasting fish, it'll taste pretty good if you dress the fish right.

the trick is to get the mudline out...i'll just stick to eatting wild caught trout, salmon, bass, and crappies/sunnies...

Here in the Ozarks they fry Sucker in vegetable oil.....very tasty just as good as fried catfish. I throw the Carp I catch in woods in a conservation area near the river where there are lots of foxes, raccoons, bobcats. Unfortunately that rutting Carp do is for food and they do eat fisheggs.....but are real fun to catch.

they eat more then fish eggs and they are rooting for roots and plants...they just happen opon the eggs and eat them, they are not rooting for the eggs nor do they target them...just like every single fish in the world that happens to find a nest they all eat the eggs...so the fact that a carp eats fish eggs is not something unique to them and not a valid reason to kill them just to kill them...if that was the reason every fish would need to be killed...not tring to be a dick, but the egg eatter reason just isn't true and who ever told you that was wrong as that is the new thing used against bottom feeders...

Lol, hehehe sorry I have to laugh man....please dont take it personnally, I get my information from Page and Burrs Peterson guide to Freshwater fishes which states that "Carp can result in decreased populations in freshwater fishes", in the wikipedia article on Carp which states they do eat eggs, on a article by Pflieger a fish biologist who wrote the book on Missouries Fishes, and a acquaintance Scott who is a fishery biologist who told me at one time that as Bass attack one carp near its nest other carp will often swoop in and eat the eggs. Most "studies" done have shown that carp (even grass carp) will eat insect larvae, eggs and about anything else they can find on the bottom of the lake or river. Here in Missouri they compete for food with a number of native minnows, madtoms, sculpins and suckers which many of them are endangered or less detrimental to the ecology of the area than carp (many carp can eat more than there bodies weight in one day)......so sorry if your a Carp lover , but there is a reason we dont have limits on Carp in Mo. and Im helping the native wildlife and fish by both feeding them Carp and by removing the living river mowers from our waterways. But dont worry Im not just against carp I would do the same thing to Snakeheads, Cichlids (even though Ive owned them), Asian Swamp eels and Gobies in my area...."exotics are for tanks, not our streams and lakes!". P.S. you can quote me on that last sentence......Im sort of proud of it!
