I don 't think that a single Missouri conservation agent would ticket you even for bludgeoning an exotic carp and tossing it back in the water or on the bank. They are a prolific and damaging species that can hopefully someday be totally removed from our waters (though I doubt that's possible). That being said, if I caught one I'd eat it for sure. I just hope we don't ever have to deal with those damned snakeheads even though they are apparently pretty good eating as well.

the point isn't if they will or wont, but that they could...carp aren't going anywere...they kill off lakes with posin around me and the carp are still found in the lake...they are just about a naturalized citizen by now so just get used to them and enjoy what they have to offer...like shooting them witha bow, catching them on ultralite, illegally feeding them to some racoons...ya know the good stuff...:naughty:

I talked to someone I am acquainted with at a conservation center .....and they told me they usually dont, but could fine somebody for littering. I will stop putting the CArp in the woods and instead will give them to a friend of mine whos Russian and eats them (if he dosent want them I will simply use some for bait and the rest will go into our landfills), what a shame......Ive actually seen the coons watching as I dropped them off in anticipation. I dont think Ill be able to wipe them out......but I do believe that if more people like you and I fish and hunt for Carp and dont catch and release it will controll their numbers so they dont have as big of an impact on our waterways.

It seems we watched the same episode of River Monsters yesterday:D. I hope they don't make it up here, but they probably will.
Carp make excellent fertilizer so that may be a good way to use these fish remains as well. Also, you could dump these on private property so if you or a friend have got some woods may start dumping them for the wildlife to enjoy there.

@Sbuse
I checked our Missouri laws and you are correct that it is illegal to dump these fish just as it is illegal even to dump extra bait. I still doubt you'd get ticketed, but I wouldn't risk a fine either.

it is the lack of interest in these fish is why they get "out of control"...i didn't care that the coons were eatting them it is just you could get a fine as stupid as it is...my state just put a law into effect that if you get any netted carp or buffalo you can't return them to the lake...yet they have the want and waste law:screwy:...so if you are netting white fish and you get some carp that you wont eat you are now supost to take them and do something with them...

I was wondering about that too. What is wrong with buffalo? I just never seen a buffalo in my area ( Im in Crow Wing county) but plenty of carps which I hasnt caught my first carp yet. But I agree with you, any netted carp/buffalo cannot return to the waters is kinda dumb since I just dont see how it will put a dent on the populations.

i shoot alot of small mouth and black buffalo around Anoka county...they aren't as bad as the carp, but they have simmilar habbits...i think that they are implimenting it cause no one realy fishes for them so they don't get removed...it wont effect the overall population, but it will get rid of some on the larger lakes were most of the netting happens to be taking place...i think they just want to try and get some of the big females out to help the cause...i have seen a few on long lake just outside Brainerd...i also have only seen 1 carp on that lake though...

Yeah seems carp populations around here aint so bad, except Boom Lake in Brainerd just had a winterkill, full of dead 25" carps and just one dead largemouth bass. Seen few big carps in Gull and South Long lake. For some reason seems I cant catch carp and dogfish (maybe its my bad skills lol)

i think that lake i am talking about is south long...there are lots and lots of dogfish on that lake and big crappies...my friend has a cabin on that lake...just up from the boyscout camp...

You wer right on the dogfish. They are plenty around, especially behind the lower dam in South Long lake during summer time. Seen few huge dogfish in that spot too but could never catch one as they keep bented my hook or broke the line.
