oh, i doubt the op will respond. he posted this over 2 months ago and no one responded. i'm going through something similar and hi jacked the thread and brought it back up to the top since it had pics.

Thanks, you've got me thinking now.

no problem. i have nothing against API's Stress Coat. its a good product. I just think too much of a good thing can be bad sometimes. I apologize to API if it ends up not being cause.

Hey it's brainstormin time cause nobody has figured it out
It does not seem to cause ill effects on fish health so no harm no foul

SOMEBODY TEST THIS

Hi guys...

Yes it was my post originally.. nice that someone brought it up again... thanks..

I can say that I don't use stress coat or similar.. water here is pretty good and I runs it through activated carbon before into the tank..

Something I have noticed lately though is that if I do the water change in the morning before the lights come on then it does not do it!!!

must've been weird to see your thread getting so many replies after being dormant for so long.

i think there's a possibility that stress coat may be the culprit in the friend's tank. they've got a left over bottle they're going through.

i wish i had a spare tank right now that i could test the theory in

I am inclined to believe that it is some sort of discharge from your driftwood. Do all of the above examples use driftwood in their tanks?

I agree.. the white "smoke" definitely forms on the surface of this one piece of wood... does not form anywhere else in the tank.
