I use salt by weight.
I don't like using the volumetric method, because different grain size when using that method, can produce different salinities.
I use 3lbs per 100 gallons to be sure salinity hits 3 ppt. A lower salinity will not kill ick.
Here is a fish with a bad case.

If 1 fish in the tank has ick, you must assume all fish in the tank are infected, and treat that entire tank.

One other thing, I dump all 3 lbs in at once, to get the biggest bang for the buck.

But if the choice is to wimp out with salt, and make the disease last longer, and maybe kill the whole tank, or jump in head on and save as many tank inhabitants as possible, I choose to act boldly, and accept the consequences.

If rock salt is not available, table salt will work just fine, even if it contains iodine. The relatively small amount of iodine for a short period of time (=treatment) will not affect the fish in my experience. Good luck!

the ich will spread first but the medication will stop the reproduction cycle of the ich. Correct me if I’m wrong ?
