I don't know what exactly it is.But it looks like a virus infection and I would treat with an Antibiotic. No salting just antibiotics. I like Penicillin its worked on all kinds of virus infection for me. You can use Amoxicillin, Kanacillin, Metronidazole or Cephalexin which ever antibiotics you can get your hands on.

And how would I go about administering these antibiotics as these are generally used orally on people to fight off different infections?

Antibiotics don't work on viruses. They target the functions of bacteria like there ability to make cell walls or membraines, synthesize new proteins need for DNA. A virus has not of these function as they are not 'alive' like a bacteria.

I don't think it is a virus anyway as none of the other fish in the tank are exhibiting any of the signs of this. I think it is more of a fungal infection or some other infection with his slime coat. In this case antibiotics might work but I'm not going that route yet, I'm sui salting and doing water changes. I think I'm going to order those medications mentioned earlier and administer an half recommended dosage.but still have to wait on shipping and handling.:( going to order triple sulfa and malichite green not sure on spelling but that it's what I'm ordering today.

Your right I ment Bacterial infection. Don't know why I said virus!

so I did a rather large water change last night and it causes pneumonia spike. hopefully my bio load can handle it and bring it back down soon.this is a test results from the test I just took I know the nitrates are hi but there always high as my tap water from the city has high nitrates to begin with. And a picture from today as you can see its spread to the back. And from the last picture you can see my other gar 100% healthy

So I wanted to give you guys an update, the white spot stopped spreading 3 days ago. The color and pattern on this gar has become more vibrant than I have ever seen it and has been this way since the spot stopped spreading. Also the normal coloration around the spot seems to be returning to normal. On top of all that both my gar have become a lot more active, swimming bak and forth in all levels of the tank. I think this all has come about from the change in there diet. They know are eating frozen/thawed pinkies, and fuzzies for the bigger one, which was my sick one. Here is a picture of the two. I think we are finally on the road to recovery. And I definitely think there diet was the underlining issue here.
