I agree with what you are saying, but I think some people are trying to ensure that they are not getting ripped off by over paying for an IT that is being sold as an ST. I think the thread that started this poll was one in which approx. half the people thought it was an IT and the other half ST. Personally, I think if you like the fish enough and you can afford and take care of it, then buy it.

that is my point if you like the fish and the price is right buy it if not walk away

this is one of the main reasons i would never pay ST money for a fish with IT tail stripes it may well be ST but it doesnt have the traits you want from the fish you are buying

a ST with IT tail stripes some even the owner may always think it IT

I agree with everything being said, however, I dont agree that this also applies with black rays and Asian Arowanas. Both of those fish look very different from their cheaper and more atainable cousins, and I could understand someone paying more for "the real deal". With ST's and IT's it is much harder to see this difference.

I think of it like people who want the super rare black rays vs. settling for a normal leopoldi/p14. Really nobody besides you and some of people online will be able to tell the difference. But people still want what they want to satisfy having something that's expensive, or rare, etc. It's human nature to want that expensive thing to feel like you have something few can obtain due to price or availability.

Like asking a girl why she wants the Dooney & Burke, Gucci, etc hand bag when she can get a much cheaper one at the discount department store.

That said I love both.

Ive always wondered the best ways to tell them apart. Any tips?
generally speaking, it's:

- ST has different tail pattern, IT is usually two tail stripes
- ST has taller body and head has a steeper slope
- ST middle bar comes to a point and sweeps back, on 3 bar ITs the bar does not come to a point/sweep back

very good tips on how to tell them apart jcardona1, i kinda disagree when u are into dats as much as i am i can tell the diffence between the 2 and i love them both, but i like someone said earlier rareity is a plus to me in my collection. plus i heard that ST's tend to stable up other datnoids in the same tank

I think its like buyng a RTG arrowana, you will look at it and its a stunning fish but you will allways want the ultimate so if it were me id just get an ST its WELL worth it they are stunning and 100% stable all the time!
