I worked a summer at a really cool LFS. I drove 55 miles each way for $9.00/hour. The employee discount made it all worthwhile. I still catch my own fish if they're busy
I normally catch all mine, I know the mangers of the stores (only 2 here) and most of the staff know me pretty well so they let me do it and deal with other costumers. I even had the manger of one get me to teach some of their new staff how to get the fish with out chasing them and banging them off the glass into the net and the proper way to get cats without damaging them and getting them stuck in the nets.
i catch my own fish at 1 lfs when the owners there, the other lfs ive never asked, and if the 1 in a million chance theres a nice fish at walmart the lady lets me catch my own.
I was walking around at my LFS and this 7 year old was netting all his own fish, I was like holy ***** this kid is sick. The employees were smiling. I asked the manager who the kid was, he replied "My son" and he slowly smiled.
The only way I ever let Customers net their own fish was if i knew they were hardcore and a known everyday customer. Other than that I would tell people to sit on it.
When I go to a store that employees don't know me, the only time I grab the net is if the employee has Jimmy Arms. Stir Stir Stir. If they keep it slow so I can watch the fish and make sure its the right one im good.
I'm good at keeping my eye on fish. 4 years of inventorying 2-3,000 fish once a week will do that to ya. God I hated Petsmart.
