My male's about 3.5 years old now. This is a photo from last summer...and yeah I need to get some more up to date shots done someday. He's anywhere from 13-14" TL now. I don't have a net big enough to haul him out for the tape measure :P

Pick him up and out. lol

darth how tall is that guy???? Like today I saw one at a pet store and it was about 13" so a little longer then mine although the thing was sooooo big. Like it looked huge from belly to back. Must have been around 6" tall. Is this common for these guys to get that big. I have never seen a midas that big before. Do they normally grow to 12" and then start to grow tall???? or is that guy just a beast. Like I was seriously shocked when I saw that guy. The store was selling him for $150 so I laughed at them and walked out lol But it was a cool fish and it was all white with very very little red near his dorsal fin.

Mine seems to be long and short(belly to back). Will it always be like this or do they begin to grow tall ways now after they have reached around 11"???

Yeah, an extra inch on a midas can mean a HUGE difference in body mass. Mine hasn't grown much longer, but is getting very thick. Probably about 5" tall, not counting extended fins heheh Have you seen photos of cichlidscene's midas(es)? Now those are some chunky beasts! You male trimac must be a beast and probably resembles some of the monster midas in these photos. To get an idea, this is what he looked like 2 summers ago. I resized the photo almost exactly 2 years ago today!

Cross, if you wanna clean up the mess, then sure, I'll haul him out. The last time I tried taking a midas out of a tank (this guy's bro or sis), I ended up with gallons of water on my office floor. I don't think the 12" jaguar I had made that much of a mess when I moved him out of his tank for a charity auction. It's going to be bad enough trying to catch a skittish 9"+ male escondido out of his tank when I re-arrange things for an upcoming TUIC order. Not to mention trying to catch my damaged haitiensis male out of a tank with lots of driftwood.
