My wife and 5 of our close friends are in the veterinary field raw diets are not good multiple reasons as to why. Stick with a good dog food for your dog. Most of them recommend and we use Royal Canine. Multiple people with doctorates and master degrees in the field say no, I listen. Brought that up on one of our weekly get togethers all of them are on the same page, saying anything from issues with liver and gall bladder problems to bacterial infection, not to mention vitamin deficiencies. Wild "dogs" eat the stomach contents of their prey and get needed vitamins and roughage that most raw diet users are not thinking about. Good quality dog food gives you all you need. Kinda like good quality pellets give you all you need.Good read! The post thatRD. linked us to was great as well. I've been thinking about switching to raw meat for my Australian shepherds.
Yeah all 3 of the vets don't have as much issue with corn and grains as they do with too high protein. I don't really get in to it with them they have the degrees and only 1 is a guy so..... My wife hits the celling everytime that blue buffalo commercial comes on "bashing" grains and corn....I just nod and smile. We've got a couple old dogs so they both get "special" diets one has liver issues and we just took her spleen out in feb.... cancer. The other is healthy but needs a calorie control diet if not he can become chubby like his daddy...lol. Hes got a tumor on his leg being removed tomorrow. Hes got lots of fatty deposit something or others but that one is cancer. (Boxer)Wow, now there's a great big ol can o' worms that's best not to open on a fish forum. lol BTW - The "most" that are recommending Royal Canine, without a doubt, supply it in their vet offices due to RC having numerous prescription formulas. That doesn't necessarily equate to overall high quality across the board. Some of RC's foods contain corn, as the main ingredient.
Corn, brewers rice, wheat gluten, chicken by-product meal, chicken fat, corn gluten meal, natural flavors, dried plain beet pulp, vegetable oil, fish oil, etc.
That's from the label of the adult poodle formula.

Ask your wife and 5 close friends what exact part of their diet, dogs in nature get their energy from? (same as fish) Here's a hint, it's not carbs. And this comes from someone who is not anti-grain (when used in moderation) and is not even anti-corn, but again when used in moderation.
Maybe see you over on the dog folder of MFK sometime .......
Really only reason I joined was everyone here is pretty cool!
Except that guy......F U
Lol
