I have a baby bowfin grow out tank in my bedroom and there is no stink. I do daily water changes but they are very messy fish. No stink though...
Amazing, I had two female bowfin growing out in my 65 gallon in my bedroom, and the tank stunk to the high heaven! I had to move them to a 135 gallon growout tank in clubroom by 14".
Five 12+ " Florida gars in the tank don't smell bad, although I do massive 80% water changes weekly.
I have three other tanks in my bedroom:
A 5 Gallon planted Pygmy Gulf Coast Sunfish colony,
A 10 gallon growout that just had a 3" (male) bowfin moved into a bigger growout strictly from aggression toward a similar sized albino senegalus bichir and a golden shiner minnow (A dither fish did not work as such!), and
A 115 gallon tall with two Datnoids 9" - 10" range, 14" Ornate Bichir, 12" Weeksi Bichir, 12" Lap. Bichir, 1 12" Bleekari Tilapia, one 5" (Major killer) Jacobf. Peacock and one 4" (Seriously Bad Tail [as in tough as nails]) Demosoni. Zero smell from any of these tanks either.
Again I absolutely disagree with the thought that massive water changes are unsafe for fish. They love clean water, the only chance of them not loving a massive water change of clean fresh water (of the same PH & same general temperature and water hardness range) is if the water was utterly filthy to begin with, and if the shock of what clean water was like didn't kill the fish on the spot, it would still most likely be incredibly beneficial to them.
The likelyhood of the filthy water having the same PH and relative range of water hardness as the clean water is very slim. This is the problem that most fishkeepers find in doing massive water changes.
If you are already on a regiment of daily water changes, there is little chance of an extreme gag in your bedroom.
On a sidenote, I came into this thread expecting questions and responses to pet fish dealing with human nakedness and the such that comes with men and women in a marriage master bedroom!
