Who Owns The REDDEST "FIRMOUTH" ???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am curious if they gain more red on the throat with age? Can diet create this desirable trait over the fishes life?
Here is a pic of my little guy. I do feed Hikari Red color enhancer, as well as NLS, bio-gold and Freeze dried Krill.

Yes they do get redder with age..gorgeous FM! :)

Here's my contribution. Not the reddest but he looks OK to me. Grabbed the photo on the fly so had to resort to flash and washing out his colours but you can see his general chilled out red coverage. He gets a lot redder when he is posturing or looking for a date. His tail is a bit torn up currently....

<-------------- Carpinte is digging pits all over the substrate and generally giving everyone a bit of grief at present. My salvini is copping the brunt of it and and has lost most of it's colour atm :(

WOW!!! What a beauty!!! How big is he?

If I were you I'd give him his own tank and maybe concentrate on breeding him ;)

agree I find firemouths and Jack Dempseys in particular never have great colour unless they are the king or close to the king of the tank. They do get more red with age but if they have crap colour when young chances are they will have crap colour later on as well . I have found that when you find good firemouths generally the whole bunch of juvies are pretty good.

Personally, I'm surprised no ones produced a "SUPER RED" Firemouth yet... Like the Pyro Trimacs, Red Oscars or Red severums etc etc... A virtually all red Firemouth with a few blue speckles would look gorgeous!

Lots of potential in all of those FMs :)
