I just set up a FACEBOOK page for Firemouths if anyone fancys joining up.... just click on like and post your pics and whats been happening with your Firemouths

That looks a woppa Jakeca77... How big is he?

I'd love to see some truelly SuperRED specimens... So far, two of mine have the reddest traits along with flyingdogs and Piefaces Firemouths.. Redness isn't a matter of how richly deep the red coloring is but its coverage... So far the most we have is the reds in the cheeks reaching the eyes (over the whole lower parts of the face. Surely specimens like this aren't that rare?

I'd say he is close to 7" now. I have some smaller ones that have more red bleeding out over their bodies but they are hard to get a picture of. I'll try tomorrow. Here is a picture of my big male's mate that died last yr. Rigor mortis had set in on her and her tail was curved when I measured her. So the exact measurement is a bit off but she was very thick and would lay nests of 500+ eggs.

I think that color variation has to do with collection points in the wild and I have a feeling that many that come from the big pet stores are inbred or in some instances hybrids of seperate Thorichthys species. FM have been kept in the hobby for years but perhaps they have never been the subject of intense breeding towards certain characteristics the way other species have. I have seen some youtube videos of some beauties in Germany and Netherlands. I think the nicest ones I have seen had almost completely black bodies with red underbellies and gill plates. I wish I would have bought some of those when I saw them.
