Who thinks bubbles/bubble walls/air stones/bubblers are a necessity in a fish tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My fish seem to be more active when I have an air stone in there and also like to play in it, esp the loaches. I also like seeing a stream of bubbles coming from under the rock slates.

I personally don't think their necessary. I've kept Armatus, Rays and a lot of supposedly sensitive fish successfully and never used a aerator of any sort. I do believe in surface agitation and it's effects on dissolved oxygen content in water. That being said I've always been a fan of spray bars. They create surface agitation across the entire top of the tank. By the way Egon I love that ]v[FK stand, it's seriously wicked.

Well I figured it couldnt hurt. So I got a 100 Gallon Tetra whisperer 100. Is has 2 nozzles I only used one because I only put one air stone in. The bubbles BLAST out of there. it agitates the water liek crazy ! All the oil slick stuff on my tank is gone after 2 minutes. Also I hate accepting this, but I dont mind the look. I might use the other nozzle and put another one in the other corner of my tank. my only concern is that the filter output is there can bubbles get into it ?

I have them in all my tanks...Not that they're truly needed, I just like them. :D

Few quick pics. One thing is I notice small bubbles at the front of the tank ? Air pump to powerfull ?

I had this happen to me when my pump intake was too close to the air bubbler. It would suck a few bubbles in and the return was pushing out very fine little bubbles making my water cloudy. As soon as I moved my air stone away from the intake the tank water cleared up.
