i live in san diego, and i LOVE catching LMB. there the funnest fish to catch. the catfish here are like logs. they just come right in. i dont kno what kinda fishing you like, but u can't go wrong catchin a huge LMB, especially when your like me, and you take it home but not for ur aquarium lol.

I am a catfish man myself, but I LOOVE fly fishing for Large Mouth Bass too.

I like Smallmouth bass for the aquarium better than largemouth though. Smallmouths seem more agressive for territory. just an observation

What weight do you use for large mouth I've been thinking about picking up a rod for large mouth, it seems like a good way to pass the time between runs and hatches.

In clear water usually nothing heavier than 10lb. In dirty stained water, I will use up to 25lb for flipping and pitching in heavy cover.

sorry I was asking Gemeines he said he flyfishes for lm,

I was thinking a four or five wieght, Also do you just use streamers and poppers. I was also thinking about stripping some large streamers in the spring for pike, but I think my 7 wt. will work fine for that.

fly fishing is weird =x i've always made fun of fly fisherman since i was little. no i've never tried it, no i wont try it. i dont like how the style of fishing is.

I use a tiny twig of a rod its 5' and thin with 6lb line. You can usually read a lake by structure to tell where the biggest wiley ol largemouth is.I just keep hitting his turf till you piss him off enough to get him to strike, sometimes takes a few hours. Those big old monsters are totally worth catching.

I agree smallies can be fun too ,but watching a largemouth break outta the water to take a hula popper at sundown......
arrg you guys got me dreaming of summer got 3' of snow here.

I don't know why but I can never catch a largemouth bigger than about 4 inches. Sometimes I can get a decent largemouth around 15-16 inches. But no monsters. I don't mind the smallmouths though. Especially when I am crappie fishing with 6 lb line and hook into a 8 pounder.

i agree that small mouth are a better fight but large mouth are still bad ass fish to kept but like previously stated in the summer heat they give up to easy i'm personally form nh and have been fishing for bass my hole life i go to this spot called sumners falls in vermont and kept 6 pound bass all day and 24-40 inch northern pike i go to ketch the pike because to me pound for pound in this countrie for a fresh water fish you'r not getting more vicous then a northern pike hook one and find out what's that's all about man they'll pull you in i caught one last year 42 inches was pulling my freinds bass boat around the lake i damn near fell outa the boat laughing but i still wanta go and ketch me some wild peacocks i bet that would get you tired out quick mean son's of a

I enjoy catching largemouths, one of my favorites but I have to admit that smallmouths are more fun IMO. I gotta say, a greatly underrated fish when size it taken into consideration is the rock bass.
