Who wants to trade natives?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can get smallmouth bass and sunfish (not sure on exact species) quite readily because a ton of their fry are born in my pond every year. As for a few other species, I'll see what I can do. I'll double check on the legality of trading native fish in PA first, though.

As far as trades go, I'm definitely interested in trading for longnose gars.

Here in the black swamps and brackish waters of south Georgia not as much as my WV days, pirate perch, gambusia, bullheads, sunfish, redfin pickerel (at times). (Saltwater) toadfish, blennies, gobies, clingfish, sergeant majors, pipefish. filefish, etc.

I have received some odd pms as of late regarding the trafficking of natives. I am not a dealer, I will not sell. Please do not PM me about swaps or whatnot, it kinda weirded me out on the hole thing.
Please, everybody else, continue, just do so very carefully, I suspect that a natural resource department may have caught wind, judging on my PMs.

Does anyone know where we can look up what's restricted to catch/keep by species?

Also, is anyone able to get ahold of an armored catfish (Hoplosternum littorale)? I think they're so cuuute! Ppl seem to get them mixed up alot with other species tho..

I just hope they're not illegal to keep in GA (sadly it seems most things are *sigh*)

check the sticky at the top of the page. Hoplosternum litorrale are not natives, you should be able to find them in aquarium stores.

Oooh, I read about them hopping all over the coast and assumed they were rofl. Well, maybe I'll have better luck finding one then at least : P
Thanks!

I beleive that you may be thinking of a walking catfish. Those are indeed illegal almost everywhere now, I think, but the bubblenest cats are not much of a threat, so they are still readily available.

It's so confusing, I saw a picture of it and it was so beautiful, so when I try to find out what it is...unfortunately there seems to be several fish names ppl seem to use interchangeably... LOL
Here's the pic of what I want, hopefully some smart non-noobs here can help me properly identify it? Thanks! I *think* it's either Hoplosternum littorale (as stated in this fish profile) but when you get into common names -- Oy, ppl seem to get them mixed up with alot of corydoras, butthose have a different shape to them - shorter and more 'arched' towards the front. The littorale has a longer, more streamlined body to show off those armor plates gracefully.
Pic of fish I'm looking for

If thats the fish you want they are not native to North America, but can be found in Florida. They are established in the St. Johns and Kissimmee drainages. The pic you have indentifies the fish correctly.
