Who wants to trade natives?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If they are not listed I would think you can keep them, but if they do list them in the future you would have to get rid of them. But I would think then you could get in trubble if caught keeping, killing, or tradeing a threatoned or endangered fish.

That guy that had a pet Snakehead (baught before the ban) had his fish taken away & they were talking about charges might still be filled agenst him. I never heard what happend in the end, as far as the charges went anyway.

So I would not get any fish on that list.

I'm just curious, does anyone know anything about the procedures and applications for keeping species on the 'do not...' lists? I'm sure it differs from state to state how to go about this and what the different requirements are, but it sure would be interesting to do a conservation project with some of the species that are somewhat rare. If breeding was successful, seems like you could even 'help out' the wild populations with your CB fry....I would LOVE to do something like this with some species of darters if it was possible : o

I can almost guarantee that you would need a permit or two to obtain, breed, and reintroduce them into the wild. I would imagine that most states would not allow a hobbyist to get these permits because the average hobbyist lacks the facilities that they would deem necessary for such an operation. They would also most likely want any of the fish involved in the breeding program to be under extremely clean conditions (e.g. lots of quarantine, etc.) and separate from any other fish in order to prevent the spread of disease into the wild.

lol i live in jakarta fish here are quite cheap, i got an alligator gar for only $5,red tail catfish for $2, spotted gars 2$ o yeah and a common snapping turtle for only $10 ;D

Let me know via PM if any of you want to trade (no sales) for little bluegills (1-3" long) at this point in time. I have eight or so in my one aquarium, and I can collect more from my pond if anyone wants more than that. These little fish converted to frozen bloodworms the first time that they were offered and are currently fed those twice daily. They are also starting to accept crushed pellets.

Interested in (especially pairs) the following:

Sunfish: Blue Spotted, Dollar, Pumpkinseeds
Darters (I think they're possibly the cutest fish ever!)
especially the following: rainbow, greenside, orangethroat, stripetail, redline,
TN snubnose, black banded...
Minnows: fathead (not the rosies), russetfins, golden topminnows
Shiners: yellowfin
Dace: mountain red belly
Yellow Perch
FL Flagfish

Unfortunately, I can only get ahold of a few things myself, and nothing very exotic, LOL. Spotted Bass, Red-breasted bream, tons of crayfish & dusky salamanders, are all in apparent abundance, but hopefully will get some minnow traps in the water soon and see what else I can get ahold of : )

RapidSheHamster, I can usually get some pretty big greenside darter pairs but I don't know how they would handle shipping.
