Thanks, and yeah I was VERY impressed when I saw him!.....I wasn`t expecting anything special...so it was quite a wow moment when I saw him! he is amazingly beautiful in the flesh...I really wish I could get good pics to show him off properly, as for the butti....I cant say how chuffed I am to have another! they are hands down my favorite cichlid out there!

well all seems to be going well, the texas and devil are no longer fighting....the texas just gets out the way when the devil gets close, the butti is being very good as well, happily just cruising about and not really bothering anyone...I am wanting to let some of the others go slowly but surely as its starting to get a little overstocked in there, so am hoping to slowly let a few go and add one more...and eventually end up with 7 or 8 big boys in there, still unsure on what I want to add....I would like a midas, other than that I`m still very unsure as of yet.

Well i gave you the sample list of the boys i keep that works for me. Maybe you could look into those :)

yeah have been looking into them :) LOVE the dovii! but I am unsure if my eventual 6x2x2 would be big enough? also loving the vieja synspillum (spelling) as an alternative to blackbelt....I wonder if one of these could maybe work?

in a strange turn of events....the butti now runs the tank! there has been no fighting between him and the devil, but the devil is completely giving way to him....the butti will come to a hiding spot where the devil is and he will just close his fins up and scoot away letting the butti have the hiding space, he did flare up a little at the butti when the butti nipped his tail in the centre of the tank, but the butti just swam round had a very half hearted nip at the devils mouth and the devil submitted instantly and swam away....the butti has been spending most of thismorning asserting his leadership by systematically going round to every fish and giving them a good nudge, I`m hoping he is not too much of an aggressive ruler.....I really am quite shocked that even at his small size he has been allowed to take over by the much larger and bulkier devil....

o love the dynamics of the thing.

it will change. rest assured it will change.

main thing is that agressions is dispersed.

yeah things seem to be fairly calm to be fair....the texas really is a big wimp bless him, I actually pity him quite a bit....it seems sad to see a big impressive fish like him fleeing at great speed from the terror at the slightest approach lol

Butti have a bad reputation for giving a false sense of security. They tend to have a moment perhaps in maturity when they snap. Synspilum can be a bit of pansies and laid back fish. Ive found a male black belt to be more dominant. I have both in my tank and my blackbelt has been raised from 2" with some real brutes and has always been a formidable opponent. My syn does what ur fish is doing right now, just gives way to the bully. You will see some changes in dominance back and forth. But remember some fish reach maturity earlier than other and sometimes what you might be seeing is juvenile behavior than can change at any minute when they hit that sub adult level.
