If you want a fish why not 5,000 for it... I personally have no issue with paying for quality or spending a great deal of money on a species if that species fits in to some sort of goal in the end. I would not pay 1,000.00 for a white tropical gar but I can not say I do not have just about an equal cost already in just the normal colored fish. I have easily spent this much on these fish if not more. The normal colored fish fit my plans and my goals a white one is a show fish and is useless to me.

Hell I buy $10.00 fish then spend $150 a month on feeding them...It is all relative to the individual and their choices.

hahaah i guess..but im sayin some guy spent like 400 on a 3 inch or so cichla intermedia that is a little crazy wat if that thing dies then ur screwed..

As said it's all the same game on a whole nother level. Just as someone buying a 30.00 fish might be worried if it dies.. The difference? One has more expendable cash than the other. Same with 300.00 intermedia, to be one of the few in the u.s. with them it's worth it to some people. If I could have afforded more than one(didn't buy any 'cause 1 is not enough) I would have bought 10.. Just an addiction and I don't even have 3k expendable for intermedia. I guess you could say some are more into the hobby than others.

As far as prices let's not forget we are in a worldwide fish market. Asia has more money than us as has been proven  So if we want it we need to get damn close to what they're willing to spend or more to get it to come here instead of on a plane to over there. Supply and demand.

Also want to point out that you may say 5k is alot for a platinum gar.. But someone might say 100.00 is too much for a lent pike. It's all in how much you have expendable.

i definately into the hobby probly more then more people but ..i draw the line somewhere...theres other things in life more important then having a 5000k fish....

This conversation is just going around in circles. Why do people spend thousands or even millions on baseball and basketball cards? Autographs? Why do people buy ferrari's instead of something cheap and junk? Old antique furniture that smells like old people to me and ide rather chuck out? A nice big house when a shack is just as good a place to sleep?
Because they can and they want it so they do. Simple.

you are maybe more in the hobby on hour own level. if I could right now I would buy one of those gars maybe end of summer there will be one arround and ill buy it. it all comes down to your financial state. if you can't see spending the money then you don't have it to spare. to the person who does spend the money they got what they wanted. this thread is doing circles maybe its time to kill it

some folks have too much money. $5000 could buy a car, or build a bar in my house, or another big ass tank, or lots of baby supplies!

if a really wanted it and had the money for it i wouold buy it and why not if its within my capacity to do so.
if i wanted it and could not afford it then tough no fishy for me.
its quite simple really

im not sayin i wouldnt spend 5k on a fish...but id rather buy a bunch of other fish...for 5k and a tank...seeing as i just spent 43.95 on a fish book

Peanut in the early twenties guppys and gold fish kept in a indoor aquarium were rare. Only the super rich could afford them, and i've read that some people would pay in eqivalent to $1200 per gold fish or guppy in our time money
