Why are datnoids so expensive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i am a first time dat owner...i got 3 first then the next day 2 more to give me 5...they were $13 for 1" fish...they are IT's...i have them in a 55gal...they are no different then any other fish to take care of...all fish should have, clean high quality water, plenty of food, and more then enough filtration...if you can't provid that then shouldn't be keeping fish...this is not directed to the op but to everyone...i have not lost a dat they are all stable and i have had them maybe a month max and they are now 2"+

my LFS has 1.5 inch datnoides for 16 dollars. and i was wondering if i could raise two at the same time?
and what would i first feed them once i get them settled?
also is that good getting them at 1.5 inches?

Datnoids are awesome fish. They are very sensitive to water changes/quality, are all wild caught and to top that off, they grow very slowly. They have awesome personality and awesome markings and watching them grow into beautiful monsters is definitely worth the money. ;)

you could get 2, but they fight amoungest them selves...more is better...i feed mine black worms, blood worms and glass worms...they were 1" when i got them...like i said in my post before...

like freeze dried bloodworms?

do i have to put black water extract?
or what do i have to do with the tank if they like it brackish?
and the spikes, do they hurt when you grab them?

Your post is a little misleading. The "$5 per Dat" is if you buy 50 of them! And you've got to add another $50-$75 shipping on top of that anyway.

It's a little misleading to you, because either you didn't read, or miss out the part "as low as" And why would I need to add shipping cost, when that vendor is not into shipping? I was only answering the OP's question, not splitting hair! :grinno:

Any fish smaller than 2" are all fragile!!!
