Why Aro's???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lets see here. They look frickin AMAZING, never hide, fufill the upper level of the tank that is often empty, prehistoric factor, float through the water like dragons, provide good luck. I believe they resemble dragons (note how they swim... like a dragon flying through the air). They're colors (gold & red) are both very lucky especially with those involved in Feng Shui. There's a story that the first person to keep an an arowana in a tank struck upon a fortune :) Asian arowana though, are much nicer than their american counterparts, i can see if you dislike those a bit. Asian aro have soo many different colors and kinds... amazingly beautiful!

Can't stand them myself:grinno:

No other fish you can keep posses the power and grace of a South American Arowana. The Scleropages are nice but pale in comparison to the Osteoglossum IMO

Top Ten Reasons to get an Arowana:
  1. Graceful swimmers
  2. Great appetite, will eat anything
  3. Top level swimmer, very few fish swim exclusively at the top
  4. Prehistoric and unusually looking, a true oddball
  5. Generally peaceful, if the tankmates are too big to eat
  6. Generally hardy
  7. Gets very big, so can be a true main show tank fish
  8. Usually doesn't hide
  9. Pretty colorful IMO
  10. The way the arowana opens up its mouth like an umbrella

Arowanas are kind of a like a Ferrari. I'm not really sure why I love them but I do.

I remember seeing my first one in person. Was hooked ever since. The way they move.... As most said the dragon part also plays into factor. Its one of the many fish when one walks into a room.... People just stop and have to stare. I wouldn't mind one day owning one.

You need to watch a good sized one swim in person. Something calming and graceful about them...

Until you watch them feed and the hit the water with a ton of force

+ they get big pretty fast and are generally easy to feed and take care of. And they stay at the top which a lot of fish ignore. And they get along with a lot of fish.

thanks, I kinda feel like I understand better now...guess I'm gonna have to find some where I can see the beasts in person. Would like to watch the feeding spectacle as well. Personally I like the orinos that I've seen, I think they are also called peacock bass. I think their coloring is pretty awesome... but again I've not seen them in person either. :) Most of what I know (or think I know) is from just lurking MFK. I just need to find someone in San Diego that has a monster tank. :D any takers???
