Amazing, do you mind if I use this as my sig?

The fact that these are spread across the globe, have withstood the tests of time and outlived the dinosaurs testifies to their resilience. The fact that they've evolved so little shows that their natural design has few flaws, much like crocodiles. They swim beautifully and just watching them is calming. Yet in the flash of a second during feeding they turn from graceful to powerful. My uncle watches his arowanas to help lower his BP and he still insists it works better than any bp lowering medicine out there. =/

Grace, Majestic are the 2 words I would use to describe them. I use to drive from Portland, OR to Vancouver BC just to look at the Asian Arros.

I want one because I can't have one, if I could, I would already have several, several of the ones I can afford, which would be greens to start with, :)

Someone stated, seeing them online and pictures does not do justice for this fish.
It an Asian Arrowana in a decent size tank, watch it swim with grace will set you into peace of mind......

So what does that make a banjar ?:)

It is an odd ball fish as far as it does not look like a "traditional fish" look - especially true for South American variant. The SA variant is also more 'sinuous' when it swims.

Asian strains are more colorful.

BECAUSE THEY ARE THE MOST MAGINIFICENT FISH EVER THATS WHY

I think alot of it has to do with how they swim. The color and look are cool, you can see it in a photo. But when you see this fish in person and how it swims the light seems to reflect off of it so beautifully. Its serpentine swimming style puts you in a trance. They also seem to look at you and observe you as a predator would. Not to eat you (because you are to big) but because it is curious and scared. They seem to own the tank as they swim at the top patrolling their habitat.

No other fish you can keep posses the power and grace of a South American Arowana. The Scleropages are nice but pale in comparison to the Osteoglossum IMO

+1. The first aro I saw was a black, bought in by the owner of the local LFS for his own big tank. I think I was about 16 and I used to ride my bmx into town after school nearly every day to watch it, I was pretty much hypnotised by it, I had never seen anything like it and from then on I always wanted one.

I do like the asians though, and would love to own a high grade blue base or something one day, maybe when I win lotto. But the blacks will always be my favourite.

IMO a black is more like a classic sports car, maybe a 1970's Porsche 911, or an E30 M3 BMW. Not super expensive or flashy, just subtle, graceful and with a cult following...

Other than that, any post-mid-80's Porsche (excluding GT3 RS) is IMO pretty much a pretentious look-at-me penis extension. No offence to all the porsche drivers out there! :D
