Once you get a school of clowns, theres no way you will forget them, very cool to keep personality-wise.
I only bought my first 6 to add some movement to the bottom of my tank, and now half a year later I'm looking hard for another half dozen to add to my shoal. They are much more entertaining to watch than I ever thought they would be.
I love my Clown Loach because he thinks he's a Tiger Barb. He shoals and feeds with them constantly.
I actually prefer Y. modesta loaches- more personality & interaction (and fighting), though can be antisocial... if not ferocious. Love the red on purple and the leaner, more athletic profile too. They aren't playful in the same way clowns are... I do love clowns too, and clowns are far easier to get around here. Orange-fins are imported every couple of years, if you're lucky.
Speaking of costly: recent imports in the shop in Kingston are about 2" long, and going for the equivalent of $60US per.

Yes, for MONSTER FISH TANKS with Arowana or other large predatory fish Clown Loaches will survive (this is a good thing) but for tanks under 100 gal. i prefer the yoyo loach
