hey everyone.
recently my dog sam died and it got me thinking about life. I questioned everything and one thing that came up was why do we keep fish they are only going to die to. for me the reason I keep fish is it keeps my axiety in check and for the good times along the way. i doubt anyone one this forum keeps fish just to keep fish everyone cares atleast a little so my question to you is
why do you keep your fish?

the challenge, fun, excitement, joy that comes along with fishkeeping and opportunity to observe the species i keep.

Death is a sad but necessary part of life. Sorry for the loss of your dog though

I keep them for the challenge. To be able to create an environment that is good enough for a species to start reproducing brings great satisfaction. To think that I can manipulate their environment also satisfy my control issues. :)

I keep fish because since I can remember my family always had them. I have always loved water and enjoy swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. I watch everything fish on tv and love how my tank looks when its dark and the tank lights are the only light source in the room. Finally the challenge of maintaining the tank and observing the fish grow and experimenting. Plus dogs require too much excercise. Im from the carribean so dogs live outside, here n the US everyone has their pets inside, i dnt want dog hair on my micro fiber sofa, or stains in my carpet. sorry bout your dog. I have a pit/lab mix back at my parents in the islands, great dog

There are so many reasons why I keep fish.

I guess keep fish really helps me relax.

Mostly sh*ts and giggles

I love knowing I am providing a great environment for a living creature, watching them grow up, and to distract myself when life gets me down on occasion. Plus, a well maintained tank adds class and aesthetics to a household.

I come from a family of fishermen, and my dad had a small tank when I was a little kid. Not until I moved in with someone who had a tank did I get the whole side of keeping fish in a tank. Until then, I had consumed my time with fishing (catch/release with exception to fluke). I suffer extreme anxiety issues and p.t.s.d., and I definitely find they calm me down, and keep my mind busy on "better" things. I can get pretty agoraphobic too and spend about 80% of my time inside my room....gotta have something more entertaining than tv.

i keep them because they keep me calm and i loove keeping them.
