Well judgeing by the fact a Silver cost you when young about $70-$100 and a Red Asain with Certificate of the same size runs you $4000, you'd think the keepers of these rare asains don't screw up and leave tanks open or improperly lidded tanks. And I am sure they keep the water A-plus.

Also the Arro in Asain culture is for Wealth and Prosperity, many asain business showcase Arro's for this reason.

Anyway in the last week here in my home town amazingly one fish store sold 1 Green Arro for $1800, it was 15 inch, he also sold one Red Finned Arro for $1500 and another for $1200, and today he sold a True Red Arro he just got in, was only 6 inch in size for $4000 to a veitnamese (sp) lady. All his Arro's come with certification aswell.

I can't agree with you more! Over here, since we both live in canada, not only we pay for the crazi price on the fish! we pay some of the highest tax rate in the world! So for a cheap, ugly looking asian that might cost me $2500, i also have to add a 12% tax rate, making it almost $3000

well my answer is much the same, if you spend so much money on a fish you better be prepared to try keep the thing alive. i was even going to stop drinking on weekends just in case my drinking was going to lead to me not being there when i should be...and ive been looking after fish for ten years..and drinking as long.
my first ever word was shishy. isnt that why we are here?
i knew i was taking on something that needed me to be concerned.
now that ive been a keeper, its like riding a bike. if you dont know where your going but you can still have a stack.

its not often someone that does not know how to keep fish alive will just buy an arow, sometimes its just because they can afford one. ussually you work your way up from goldfish and other things and then after a while you find out about arowana and you take that on knowing too well if you kill one, your next one probably aint coming as a birthday present.

then there is the shame.. i spent x amount on this fish..and someone asks you how your extremely expensive fish is right now? it died???.
this is something that can scar you for a long time, knowing that you were god.
the thing with fish is, unless you get them in poor shape, like my old man says.. it didnt break, you broke it. ive always had a hard time admitting he is right.

talk about jumping, i put bird netting over my fish. drilled holes every foot around the tank.. and still i was left thinking it wasnt secure enough. i spent more worrying time looking on the floor every moring than it wouldve taken to drill holes every 10cm. these days i feel easier about it but one day i might punch myself in the head for not putting padlocks every inch.

Well, while we're on this subject. My friend's RTG just had a close call with high nitrate. Developed popeye, losing slimecoat, and a little bit of finrot. But a 50% water change and some meds later, thing was back and eating after 3 days.

Crazy hardy.
