Why Is It So Taboo For Someone Telling How Much They Bought A Fish For.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got two small Fossorochromis rostratus at World Wide Aquarium in Upper Darby, PA for $7.50 each. Both are over 8" after ~ 2 years.

I got my small EBJDs for $10 each at the FishFactory in NE Philly. Both are over 3" a year later.

That is a great price!
In Chicagoland they average $30-$40. Most hover around $40 @ 1-2"

See, this is why sharing is good.

I purchased this 4" Red-Spotted Gold Severum last year at Fins, Feathers, Paws, and Claws in Harleysville, PA. for $49.99.

Picture of him in the quarantine tank and about 8 months latter. He is about 6" now.

I purchased this beautiful 4" Blood Parrot at World Wide Aquarium in Roxborough, PA. for $50.

It was one of those un-planned purchases. I took one look at her and immediately called for the fish catcher.

$40 for "Red Streaked" Sev at my LFS - he is my showcase fish...on the price is right, lol

I kind of figure it's in how you ask and how you respond. If you ask politely, you're doing no harm. And if someone asks you, then you respond politely (whether you disclose the information or not).

I don't think it's wrong to ask someone that, but if you ask you should be prepared for someone to say "No, I'd rather not say" or in some cases even ignore you. It is their business, after all, and that should be the end of that. If someone badgers me repeatedly it's annoying and rude, but really, I'm not going to be bothered by someone asking me once what I paid for X, Y or Z.

And in forums, I think it's better to send someone a private message rather than ask in the actual thread, but even if they do, my thoughts on it are still pretty much the same. *shrugs*

I purchase three of these Burmese Humphead Glassfish from Captain Nenos (formerly Big Al's) in Plymouth Meeting, PA. for $22.99 each. They were about 2" when I bought them. A year later they are ~ 2 1/2".

Great community fish.

I think most people don't mind unless its a high dollar amount. I think its like asking someone how much money do they make its a personal thing. I think in general if one could afford expensive fish they must make a lot of money. But we know that is not always true. I think when someone says they got a great deal on a fish when they normally sell for twice or three times the amount. People question whether its the real deal whether its pure strain. They want pictures proof who they got it from. If its not from a reputable dealer they say its probably a low grade not a pure strain. People don't want to hear they got suckered.
