Rhoms tend to go into the hands of more experianced keepers as they have a higher price tag/usually harder to find. I wouldn't group you from what I've seen on this site as one of those immature people even if you kept a shoal of reds. And I didn't mean all underage p keepers are immature..

But visit a piranha themed forum once and you'll see what I mean about immaturity and these fish esp. easily obtainable red bellys being in younger immature/hands. And bought for the hype.
Oh thanks! I do know what you mean about 'immature' p keepers.

i keep piranhas because of what they are... great looking, aggressive fish with lots of varieties to mix it up with. i do like and hope to have some other species like arrow's, stingrays and hope to get some in the future but i do not have the money or tank space for any of those yet.

I was just curious as to why you would want to keep them? I imagine it is expensive to be feed them, they probably dirty the tank quickly when ripping other lives apart. I have also come across several photos on the site and they aren't exactly great looking. Umbees, Doviis, Buttikoferi's and several other cichlid species look better and would own piranha's in a one on one situation hence why all the piranha videos on youtube show one fish getting slaughtered by a gang of piranha or show a much larger fish eating another.

This is not a flame. I am just wondering why you chose piranhas?

I like piranha, I find them attractive, especially the elongatus.
They are not that expensive to feed and easily adapt (most species) to pellets. They are also no dirtier than most fish their size, as long as you feed them appropriately sized food. I for one prefer feeders no larger than 1/4 the P's size.

Many members wouldnt be here if it werent for piranhas and perhaps their reputation. P's are the "gateway drug" of monster fish keeping.

If it weren't for P's I wouldn't be here. I started with two dime sized red bellies 5 years ago because I wanted a cool mean fish and bought them with out knowing what I was doing. If it wasnt for an "immature P related site" I would have killed them and been out of the hobby, instead I learned more and I also loved the hobby more.

I dont keep piranhas today because I dont have the space, but I have kept several species and loved them all!

Oh and tell me this fish isnt beautiful...

With out a doubt, I agree that piranha site is very very informative. Although I think alot of people try to make piranha more hardcore than they are and get caught up more in exploiting how mean they think their piranha is.

I think alot of people buy them on hype, but there's a difference between thinking the fish is cool and thinking " i gOtS a PiRaNhA yO aNd iTs wIlL kIlL aNy fIsh!!" and "iM gOnNa fEed tHeM a gUiNeA pIg, yOu tHiNk tHeY'll eAt iT?"

I think we both came from the same piranha site, and it's that mentality that turned me off of keeping piranha.

Beautiful fish though. You should post your piraya.. My favorite piranha and one of my favorite fish altogether.
