My 300g wide was custom made for the previous owner, cost him approx. $5000 just for the starfire glass tank with sump.
That's why they aren't common.
Also a pain in the ass to move.. at 6.5' long and 36" wide with double brace, it weights about 600lbs empty. Took 6 of us to move it out of his basement and we were all big guys. 6'2 230lb guys.

I refer to standard sizes:

I see tanks that are 30" tall but nothing wider than 24" being standard

I totally understand seeing more 55g than 180g, but the fact is they would make 300g as 96x24x30 but not 96x30x24, not a single standard size is wider than 24" makes me think there may be more than just demand
Get your reference from an actual company that sells tanks such as glasscages .com and see what your choices are. Marineland makes a whole line of "wide" tanks. They are not hard to find unless you are only looking on craigslist. Either way it's still about demand.

I am going with that my door ways are only 30 inches wide if the door is off. I do not think I could get a tank that was any wider than 26 inches wide in my house. And normally the stand is a little bit bigger than the tank. That is why I built a plywood tank.

TruVu sells both. You can pick which dimensions you want.

Because we americans buy off the shelf ,in germany and much of europe tanks are usually custom build and they are willing to pay the price, most casual aquarists are not, willinh here to pay for that, supply and demand so there you go.

I believe this.

My tanks are custom made. I want them as wide as possible. Width is way more important than height for me.

So where is it that you shop? Not an LFS around me that keeps anything more then a 125g in stock and ya sure aint going to see it at Petco/Petsmart. Either way there is just not a demand for tanks that wide as most people don't keep anything bigger then an Oscar.

Being that almost all housing doorways in the US are under 35". 31" is being the average if they made tanks that were 36" wide as standard. The height would have to be under 31" to fit into majority of houses.

Most people wouldnt think of buying anything taller then a 30" tank. So as clockwork has stated. Doorways really arent the issue.
