Why won't my snake eat????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok thanks everyone. Going to the pet store tomarro to get some stuff for mater.

So is it true that female balls have shorter tails from where it "tapers" to smaller? And if its a younger male, how can you tell?

As far as hot rocks are concerned, I don't get the drama at all. I've never seen one "Fail" and "Cause burns" (Must have been a pretty stupid snake to lay on a rock that was burning it:confused:). Hot rocks are designed for direct belly heat; they put out a smooth, steady heat. Not the dangerous aperatus people paint them out to be. That said, I would rather use a UTH.
well then you have been lucky, they dont always fail its just when they do it can turn out badly and its hard to tell from just looking at it whether it is functioning properly or not, and its not about smarts of the snake, for animals that are evolved to get their heat from belly like desert animals laying on warm rocks and such they have better sensitivity to warm below them, but for an animal that gets its warmth from the air they don't have a lot of heat receptors in their belly so may not realize it is hot and burning them until it already has

and OP i don't think there is any outer physical difference between male and female you have to actually look at their privates but i would suggest finding someone who is experienced in this to help you (some one please correct if this is wrong, i had my breeder i got my ball from sex her so im def not experienced with it)

Ok..................................................................ill update tomarro if he or she, mater, has eaten and ill post pics of it after the new changes;

i own 2 ball pythons bring the humidity up to around 70-75, for a bout a weekd, also soak him in the tub with some nice warm water for a bout 1/2 an hour, so he will shed, then try and feed.

My experience is quite different, and stems from a time when UTH's were avoided because...are you ready for this...They get too hot. Hard to believe, but true. Hot Rocks were/are cooler and more gentle. I would guess millions of hot rocks were sold for reptile use over a span of twenty years or more. I really don't think it's a matter of being lucky. I had never heard of a hot rock causing harm to a snake, at least not until this invention called the internet.

You can not tell on sight if a UTH, hot rock or even light buld is functioning properly. You must accurately measure temperature with a thermometer. This is the only way to know.

It is highly unlikely any snake would sit on any object that is hot enough to actually burn them, or cause them physical harm. They would simply move off of said object when it got too hot.

Lastly, the much more common way for a hot rock, UTH or bulb to fail is it simply stops working and no longer gets hot.

Don't get mad every one. but i HAVE to use the hot rock. My daytime bulb burnt out.... Sad day. Not really. So until tomarro he/she has to deal with it. Oh um would an adult corn snake(red rat snake) be fine in a 40 gallon tank?

If you aren't prepared to give your pet all it needs in order to lead a healthy life, don't buy it in the first place. Believe me, I know people who made the mistake of keeping a hot rock with their bp, and it literally burned through the snake's flesh and killed it. Make sure to get that thing out, please don't ever use it again.

I recommend you use an undertank heater with a thermostat. Ball pythons like belly temps up so that they can digest easily.

Well i have to use it for tonight. I WILL get some things. Heres my list: Coconut fiber stuff,UTH, New light, And thermomiter and humid omiter thing

Well i have ever thing changed. The UTH is working, He shedded yesterday and it's all in one piece. But it got torn in two on the drift wood. And get ready, He eat today!!!!!
