Wild ‘Columbia’ Oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was thinking more, how fast do they grow? Are they fast as tiger oscars?
I had a Petsmart tiger oscar at 2" get up to 11" in as little as 6 months. It was raised out in my 210 gallon. I'm hoping for a pretty decent growth rate so I can move one of these guys into the 300 in maybe three months or so.

Was not very pretty or well patterned but a very nice shaped fish

How big of a tank i need for a wild oscars, i read they can reach 18”, i had four tiger oscars before in a 75g and they were fine, they grew about 1’ if i remember correctly, i never had a wild oscar before so this is new to me.

Juan is my first wild caught Oscar. But I do believe that they need the same size tanks as tank raised ones. It's just in the wild they can get bigger. All the YouTube ones I have seen are the same size as normal Oscars.

Good luck and hope everything goes well

Really hard to say, Ive heard stories of big captive born and even videos but nothing real substantial to prove the gaint sizes claimed. I would treat it like a normal oscar and figure a 75 gallon for it minimum... without any other oscars.

Updates

The Oscar which I currently call #3 is showing some awesome patterns

Being so small they are very timid. Hard to believe how big they will get

J jaws7777 updates on the oscars

They look great man . 3 does look like the best one so far but the other 2 aren't far behind.

I do hate you btw. I have enough problems in my life

OMG Look what you have gone and done Juan. Everyone wants your cousins now due to your ultimate cuteness!

Not an update on the Columbia but a pic of my old Rapps Bumblebee. Just wanted to add this as my favorite inspiration Oscar.

A video of it when I was trying to heal it of the bacterial infection. Even then it was feisty.
I love orbs myself. I had a pair of Bahia red tails that I miss dearly. I too am a fan of oscars and will always keep at least one. They’re too personable not to love. I have some CB ones now that look wild that I got to help pellet train the bass. May or may not keep them. Like you, I want crassipinnis or orbs

I like the Bahia reds too but havent seen them available in a while.

Rapps has just got some Astronotus crassipinnis ‘Araguia’ for sale.

Here is a video I found of some. Not really the banded pattern that was available a few years back but good looking fish.
