I cant tell but a few hundered I bet.

Fishluver...I see you cut the back of the pot out....I was thinking about doing this because they try to get at each other through the small hole and scratch up around there mouth because it kinda fits in that hole. How did you do it? And what side pots are those? Mine ar 12"...

I tap around the small hole with a hammer. You just have to be careful or You will break too much off.I beleive these are 10" pots

Nice Fishluvr...

How many fry did you guys have? I only had about 400 or so. When my rtm had fry, there were over 1000 at least...and even more when my dovii did.

Best I can tell they have between 200-400.Mine have been breeding for 1.5 yrs and it seems they are having larger spawns with maturity. But the spawns do seem a little small for such a large cichlid

Great looking pair, did you grow these guys out? By chance did you get them from Rapps?

Nope I have only had them for a couple months. I guy close to me was selling...he had them for a couple years...and they were proven breeders so that why I got them.

Today they wigglers are starting to venture to the edge of the pot and out of it...and then momma sucks them back up and spits them back in the pot.

I started about 2 or 3 days after they were born. I had noticed when Id feed the parents, they would take the food in their mouths and go over to the fry and chew it and let it flow out of their gills to feed them. I just took over and simulated that.

Id take a cup, put about 2 tablespoons of tank water in it then put flakes in the cup and mix it until it had the consistency of cookie dough. Then Id just take pinches of it, roll it into a ball and drop it in the tank above them. By the time it got halfway down the tank, it would disintegrate into millions of little pieces small enough for the fry to eat.

is that you making flake dough in your avatar? :D

My problem is they are all the in the back of a 12" pot...id have to stick my whole hand in the pot to feed them and that might spook her too much. I haven't tried to feed them anything yet....and when I feed the parents they seem to just eat it. But they are all still there growing so who knows. I have some golden pearl (baby brine shrimp size) on the way from kens fish food.

scratch that...I see them eating the food and it coming out the gills. They dont go hover over the fry but they are letting it out the gills.

If you ever stick your whole hand in to feed the fry, make sure you make a video of it :)
