you would need this big of a tank if they are to have any kind of tankmates (but even then they may get killed) but if you just have the pair to themselves than a 120 (what are the dimensions on yours?) would be fine for a long time, but might want to eventually go with something wider (not neccesarily more gallons just different dimensions) as the male gets bigger but i think it would take him years to outgrow a 18in wide tank, the main thing you have to worry about is the male liking the female enough to not kill her though usually their size difference is enough that you can be creative and make hiding caves that she can get into but he cantGruff Master;3622239; said:Did you say that your festae pair are in a 120gal? I have six juvies that I am currently growing out in a 120 until I get a single pair. How long could I keep a pair in a 120? Many people tell me that they will need at least a 220 or more.
My 120gal. is 18" wide,5' long, and 26" deep. I don't plan on any tankmates. Well, maybe some dithers. They are too small to tell what sex they are. Their bars come and go.Sarah88;3626205;3626205 said:you would need this big of a tank if they are to have any kind of tankmates (but even then they may get killed) but if you just have the pair to themselves than a 120 (what are the dimensions on yours?) would be fine for a long time, but might want to eventually go with something wider (not neccesarily more gallons just different dimensions) as the male gets bigger but i think it would take him years to outgrow a 18in wide tank, the main thing you have to worry about is the male liking the female enough to not kill her though usually their size difference is enough that you can be creative and make hiding caves that she can get into but he cant
