Wild kelberi so close I can just smell them!

It helps if you have a dozen or more of these guys. When you have a big group like that, their mentality is something along the lines of "if I don't eat this, the other guy will". Its worked time and time again for me. That's why I tend to buy fish in groups and cherry pick as they grow.

Keep in mind before you buy these guys that they are notoriously hard to convert off of live. Some people have had really good success with very young individuals in the 2" range. Most of us that got the w/c ones that were allready 4" + have had a hell of a time converting. These fish are crazy stubborn. Ive had mine almost a year and its just now starting to hit silversides. Still wont eat them, but hes atleast taking them in and spitting them.

if theres a will theres a way.:D:D:D

Very well said Venom but I don't think this will matter much ither way. The experience of keeping Cichla has taught me if the individule want's it there going to get it no matter what. Kind of a "You live and learn type thing". Mine still won't eat anything else. Looked real hard at some Talipia last week but still didn't go after it.

At the price tag they were last batch I don't see why not? But of course living some where that there not easliy accessable is THE PRICE YOU PAY! Now anything under fare market value is a steal for a purchase of something that you were never supposed to be able to obtain in the first place.

P.S. Channa - Thats why every hobbiest should not own Kelberi. Know your limit's because your limit's will know you! I still wonder how many Kelberi died last go around? I lost one and I know there many more losses. And I wonder how many could afford that???????

i agree with what you say mike.
im saying that i know several hobbyists wouldnt be able to afford such a number of kelberi.
i myself am a student.
i know my limits,as a student.
being a student with no job and only a weekly allowance of about 20 USD,i know how hard it is to save for something you really want.
im dont think saying every hobbyist should not own kelberi is fair though.
i think as long as one is able to provide for the fish CAN get one,not saying you should or shouldnt.

Oh yea for sure me included. it's not the norm to buy that many of any Sp of fish or very practical for a first time keeper. But I do understand the concept. Me personally I say get your skills down first then move up to the big challange after you have a little experience under your belt. And for sure heed the advice of others!

P.S. I bought all my Kelberi in single purchase's I completely had to check my limit's! So I do feel what your saying. But Jeff offered these Cichla at amazing prices none the less which made these an even hotter item imo... but like Venom stated take into account also Kelberi are one of the hardest of the Cicihla Sp to keep happy and alive for that matter.

As far as saying some people should own something is just I hate to see anything so beautiful die due to neglect or lack of knolwedge. But that's the extint of my feelings I AM JUST SAYING! Doesn't mean I don' think they should. Kind of like my passion for Sting Rays I tell everyone that comes to my house NO you shouldn't get a Ray because I would hate to hear that they killed it. You know?

Your right! ;) I say try with an Occellaris first though. :( Still not cool but it's apart of this hobby we all losse fish.

I cant wait to see what Jeff has in store for us this go around. There are going to be some happy Kelberi owners I am sure! :naughty: I am completely fascinated by my little group. If I had to I would sell everything else and just keep them. I love Kelberi :headbang2
