I like the JD, con, firemouth idea. I haven't seen a 12" JD yet, but the one I gave to a friend has topped out at 10" and looks great in his 55.

Agreed, I have never seen a JD over 10". I believe that they exsist, I have just haven't been lucky enough to see one.

My JD topped out at 9".

I would welcome any pictures of foot long JDs, I will eat my words

I don't remember for sure, but I think this guy was close to a foot.

Yeah, I think a lot of older large demseys are prone to the 'bent spine'. I've seen a lot of big males that kind of develop a hump in their spine.

JD's can supposedly can reach 10-12 inches, although personally, I've never seen one larger than about 8. My own Jack (a male who is close to 6 from lips to tip of tail) is in a 75 gallon (same height and length as a 55 but a little deeper-18 instead of 12). I would go with a 75 if you have not already purchased the tank. It gives quite a bit more space and then you would have plenty of room for a female if you so choose.

I have a three Cichlids at the moment all juvies 2' RD, 2' GT and a 3' JD i dont know if they are male or female but I deff want to cross a RD and JD love the aggressiveness with some flashy colors

How you will sex them up. All males? All females?
You have 9 differents conbination.
Which one you will do??

I see your also from Queens what u got in your tank?

people often recommend based on the largest possible size of a species . you know that fish that outgrows the rest of the brood and gets huge . unless you get that monster alpha male , you're fine in 55 for your average jd .
