Will he survive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He's actually out in front of the tank right now so I can get a couple good shots. The white stuff is coming off, but there's blood in between the scales. Is this normal as well?

oops double post

Yup, that's exactly what i was expecting it too look like. The red is completly normal for this sort of incident, that white stuff is not fungal just the slime coat sloughing off. It actually looks to be in pretty good contition considering what's happened. He'll be good as new in no time.

This is great to hear! Thanks for all the input guys.

Just out of curiosity, I know his colors don't really stand out right now, but I'm in the process of slowly siphoning out the sand out with each water change and going to replace it with black sand. From the pattern, can you tell if mine is cb or wc? The lfs I got it from received it at about 8" and it grew to 14" in a year. I know that it's rare for really small babies to be wc so could this one be? I would really like it if it was, that way I can actually watch it grow to its 30" max size.

They almost never grow to 30 inches in captivity never less in the wild!

Here's an update on my guy. He's becoming more active now and all the white stuff has peeled away. The scales are still extremely red which freaks me out every time I look at him. I'm not sure if he's eaten yet though. Ill see my lap eat but not my endli but in the morning the rest of the food will be gone. I'm not sure if its the endli eating it or the lap just coming back for seconds.

The white like stuff..That will come off then you will see bare flesh. I had the same thing. the dead skin will peel off.then it will turn white again then the scales will slowly grow back.

Ok. Now I'm really mad! He was just starting to get better and then I get a text from my dad and he jumped out again! There are no holes remotely close to thickness of this guy and the tank is completely covered. I've had this guy for over a year now and not once did it try to get out. How come all of a sudden it has this urge to escape from the tank.
