Will I eventually need to upgrade?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Long term I would get the 125 "package" for the 6ft length...that would give the best territorial space.

125 = JD and 2 parrots
55 = 2 parrots
OR
2 55's with 2 parrots each
the 75 for the JD alone

I can’t return the 75g seeing I bought it second hand. I’m now interested in starting over maybe cichlids just aren’t for me. Or I’m just attracted to larger ones. 4 BPs is too much for a 75?

You'll be okay as long as they get along when big. Keep in mind regular parrots get to 10" and some get bigger. Takes them awhile to gain that size but I would still keep a 55 on hand just in case. Best to be prepared and not have to scramble later!

4 parrots in a 75 will need around 2 50% WCs a week.

Ok I will return my JD later on tonight thanks for your help. What would be some nice tank ideas. I know they like caves.

Terra cotta clay pots are easy, just get them big enough. No glazed pots. All my parrots are jumbo sized, so they have 9" pots. Parrots like squeezing into spots they're too fat for! Clusters of plants for hiding spots are good. So I make sure they'll have enough space not to injure themselves. Give them lots of nooks and crannies to explore. They love to dig. Space is important because they get real bulky when big...My smallest one is baseball size and my biggest is a grapefruit with fins.

I just got regular ones from petsmart. I’m thinking about a rocky/driftwood type theme. I’m sure I could incorporate the pots with that.

It was so hard to find the 75g, I was looking for it for a whole year. I doubt I’ll be able to find let alone afford a 150g. What do you suggest I do? I believe I still have time to return the jack even though I don’t want to but it wouldn’t be fair to him.
Look for a 6 to 8 ft snapframe pool, should cost about $20

Petco has a dollar per gallon sale, right now a 75g is 80$.

4 blood parrots and a jack in a 75 is a bit much. Perhaps they will get along because the aggression is spread out amongst them. It depends on the jack most likely, a female or less aggressive male might be fine sharing with some BPs, an alpha male jack may kill them all. The BPs can be unpredictable as well, Ive seen some that are docile and some that are very mean.

Personally I would buy the 75, or larger if you can, and give it a shot since you already have the fish. Keep an eye on them and remove some if necessary. Keep in mind even if they get along in the 75, as adults that will be a lot of bioload, will probably require 2 water changes/week

For a more natural look with the pots you can get some silk vines from a craft store, soak them for a day in water then wrap them around the pots.

The dollar per gallon sale in my area on goes up to the 29G. I seen on a couple of post that I could house the JD alone in a 40G breeder with heavy filtration of course. What do you guys think about that?

it's dollar per gallon until 29g, then 50% off after that, so 75g is 80$. I work at Petco, and this is a nation-wide sale.

Personally feel that a 40b would be fine for a female but cramped for a male JD. Have seen some large bulky males before.
