oh yeah and I got 2 stories

this one happened today

Kid: I want that one (points to random fish)
Kid: and two other ones (points to two more)
I asked him what size tank, and his dad made a size with his hand, I thought about 10 gallons.
Me: those fish are too agressive (a white lie), they wont be happy in a 10g. Get a bigger tank
Kid: are they mean (points to other tank of africans)
Me: even more
Me:just get one yellow guy. Get a bigger tank, then you can go nuts.
Well, later I found out two sad facts. The tank was a 5g, and he was buying it that day. Then, god bless her, a lfs employee stepped in and told the kid about cycling. He didnt get the fish today, and hopefully he'll end up with a bigger tank.

the other one was tole to me by that lfs's manager

Appparently, a guy walked in one day to buy a fish and tank. He had no experiance with fish, but wanted saltwater. The employees fianlly convinced him that with his budget,he can only get a betta. The next day, the man comes back with the bette (alive). He also is returning its food, because he is a vegan and refuses to feed it anything with fish in it.:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Do you work at House of Tropicals now?

You'd think that the person had done the research beforehand. Unless they were misinformed and got those instructions that bettas feed on plant roots.
At least they returned the betta. I read a story of a person who was keeping a snake and forcing the snake to be vegan.

Actually I'm semi vegan here and I also prefer to minimize feeding fish based foods due to my concerns over large scale ocean fishing. So I feed mostly insect based foods to my bettas. Bettas love bloodworms, so it goes.

I had to deal with a completely drunk lady one time that needed help with an ammonia problem. I started asking her questions to try and figure out what caused the ammonia problem so we could go from there. She scoffs at me and calls me a dumb ***** and tells me not to lecture her on how to deal with her tank because she's been doing this for longer than I've been alive, blah blah.... So I hand her a bottle of ammonia detoxifier and tell her to have a nice f'ing day.

She goes up to the front counter and demands to speak to someone helpful ("not that ***** in the back"), she's yelling at the cashiers, and the guy who's with her is completely mortified.

So I get my manager (who thankfully has a degree in special education), and he goes up there to talk to her. Turns out the lady has a SALTWATER TANK and she had recently introduced an ich-covered fish. So she took out all her live rock and has it soaking in undechlorinated tap water because that is what someone online told her to do (AHH!) and then she RID-ICHED her live sand and for some reason all her fish are dying and she can't understand what went wrong.

My manager managed to tell her in a way that had she answered my questions to ascertain the situation, we might have known she had a saltwater tank and been able to help her better. She finally left and no one had to call the cops. LOL She was supposed to come back the next day with a water sample, but judging by her state, I doubt she even remembers coming in to start with.

She did come in a couple weeks later and as soon as I saw her I walked away. She stopped me and asked for my help and I reminded her that last time she was in the store she made it quite clear she wanted no help from "that ***** in the back." I got my manager to deal with her. LOL

Jeox's is funny. Lol, the 6" Brutus. She musnt know of any freshwater fish they get beyong 18" then. I've seen vids of 21" RTC's eating a 5" Jag, 7" Comet, 13" Tire Track Eel and a 6" Bala Shark. (Fish were dead). The man had all these fish in the one tank (Apart from the RTC) and a random ammonia spike from overfeeding or something killed them. Oh, the RTC ate these fish over a 12.4 hour period.

Do you work at House of Tropicals now?

nope for 2 reasons

1) im 13
2) they sell dyed fish, so I will have nothing to do with them anymore.

this happened at scales TFW, my new lfs

Heres a good one for tonight. Customer wants "cool fish" for their 29 G. None of the recommended fish are cool, so they went rogue.

Selections:

2 Yellow Labs
1 Electric Blue Peacock
1 Blood Parrot
6 Neon Tetras

WTF?

On a lighter note, not every experience is bad. I GAVE 4 COLLEGE GIRLS CRABS TONIGHT!

They wanted some hermit crabs, I got to spend a half an hour with them. Very Nice!

Last night, there was a portly man wearing an Iowa windbreaker holding a bag full of water. I am sure this story would go in this section, but I ran and hid. LOL
