we'll i've got many but heres a short one

I was in petsmart ( all ready you know its about bad advice ) a lady was looking for a small fish for here daughter. she looked around and asked questions about there fish and every thing needed a 10 gallon even the cichlids and the pacus . So she sees the bettas in those plastic cups and decides she wan't a betta . she gets a little thing of betta food and then says will it be okay in the cup or does it need somethin bigger the lady there who was like 40 said no its fine thats plenty of room just change its water every month ...

Another one would be when I was younger and i was in a pet store and a kid walked in there lookin all smug, one of those spoiled brats that gets every thing they wan't from there rich parrents and thinks they can tell adults every one what to do .

Any way he was looking at the fish at the same time as me and told his mom to go make her self use full and get a worker and the mom wen't and did it with out any second thoght :shakehead he starts going from tank to tank pounding on a tank looking at it for a few seconds moveing on to the next one and doing the same thing . I said to him you shouldn't do that he looks at me looks a little shocked then goes right back to doing it i said again a little louder that streeses the fish please don't do that . he looks pissed and says we'll retard, if you knew more about fish you'd know that you have to bang on the glass to see which ones are active. plus these fish are fat they need to lose weight, so i'm helping them feal better idiot . i said your not doing any thing but scareing them and makeing them feal worse. he says didn't you hear any thing a just said man your dumb, i said we'll lets test your theory , i walked oever to him slapped him in that back of the head and said how do you feal. he got a blank satre on his face then an angery one kicked me in the shin and ran off . He met up with his mom and said these fish sucks lets go and left .

Man ya should of hit him hard enough to knock him out! ;)
Kids can be such little bastards! (I know, I was one... :D:ROFL:)

my favorite is when i was at the LFS and heard one of the knowledgeable employee's kindly telling a man that they had Male Bristlenose Plecos in stock and he kept denying it and saying that Males dont exist in captivity and that if he found one it would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars because all the bristlenoses are captive bred:screwy:. so when the employee goes on to ask him how the are bred in captivity without males. He goes well............(now get this)............ummmmmmm i misspoke i meant there were no FEMALES:screwy::screwy::WHOA:. at this pont i had to leave because i was craking up:ROFL:. when i went back later to ask him how it turned out he said that the guy ended up buying a pair of em.:ROFL::ROFL: and he said that he would "prove the LFS wrong" by not breeding them:screwy:

^^ that guy is so BEYOND STUPID!!!!

I'm starting to get concerned about betta aquarists now! :nilly:Its like such a different world! Its as if obsessed betta keepers don't have to follow the most basic rules any aquarist follow!
I've been on betta forums and stuff and from what I take it bettas are not fish!
I mean you go on "Ultimate Betta" and stuff and most of the owners believe that they don't need cycling, filtration, anything bigger than a 1g, and many of them put flashing lights to decorate their tanks, or "bubblers" to make pretty bubbles... all that in a 1g tank!
I get more the impression that some of them are plain "betta hoarders" rather than real aquarists, and that there is a little hypocrisy going on with many of them as they say they care sooooo much about their little fish... well if ya care sooo much then why buy 46 of them and all cram them in 1g tanks... I mean it seems a little too convenient in my mind that bettas jsut oh happen to thrivr in 1g, so their owners never need to buy real tanks and they can keep 50 if they want too (some of them have really have like 60... and I don't mean they bought each and every one of them, no breeding! :D) They just argue that their fish is happy in their 1g... so that means its perfectly fine... well guess what? As a kid my goldie seemed perfectly happy in his 1g bowl! :D I love the way many use the word "upgrade" when referring to going from a 1g to a 2.5 gal... and it really seems to be a big deal for some of them to choose if they will "upgrade" or not... :WHOA:

I'm really getting messed up with their stories, what do you guys think? Is it ok to keep bettas in 1g (sometimes hexagonal or cylindrical tanks) with weekly 100% water changes, flashy lights, no cycling, ect... they survive sure but... is it really okay?:( Are bettas just so different than other fish to the point they don't need the same care?

Something interesting.. i found very old fish keeping guides, and they have a list with min requirments for tank sizes (75g for oscars, 20g for danios, 10g for neons ect) and they say 10g for bettas!

(now they hate me cause they say I am misinforming and corrupting new beginners who could believe what I say and be influenced to buy minimums of 2.5g instead of a 1g!:screwy:)

i'd say a 5 gallon should be the minnimum for a betta a 2.5 gallon would work but the more room the better and the tank should be set up as any other tank

for a betta i always go with a 5 g tank with a few fake plants and a little gravel wait for it to cycle and then throw the betta in and be sure to keep a heater

they like warm, shallow water
and they don't like flowing water
