I can understand why some people are suspicious of people working in lfs, I've had my share of bad encounters... One time I was looking at an adorable tiny oscar fish and a guy working at the petshop came to me and asked if I was interested in the fish. I told him "It's cute but I don't have what it takes to keep one of those." The guy told me if I had an aquarium, so I replied I had a tiny five gallon with a Beta. That wierdo then told me "that would be fine! This fish is a full grown adult and a 5 gallon is the min required to keep them". I was like WTF while staring at him, so he added "your Beta might nip it a little but they don't normally harm each other"!!!!

Today an employee of an lfs near me told me that freshwater shrimp grow to a foot and are viciuos... WTF???????? Where did he come up with this?

We had a customer come in to the shop a few months ago who thought that we gave cash for fish we explained that we gave store credit he was very very stroppy and said wil you swap it me for a redtail cat (we had one brought in) i asked him the size of his tank he said 4x1x1, i said it would outgrow it he siad it would be fine, after that he hasnt been in.

I ran a horse farm for 10 years. One client said her horse hated water, no baths. One day the temp hit well over ahundred. In one hour I had her horse having a bath like there was no problem at all. SHe showed up and proceeded to scream at me. No thanks, just attitude. When she left the barn for good, she could not bath her horse. I could. I like fish much better. My fish store lets me catch my fish, feeders to. I often speak to some customers about my ID sharks. IF I am in the store and someone is buying one, they ask me to share my experience. Some people care some don't. I do.

Lol, I don't work at lfs, but I don't hesitate to give advice when people need it, lol. One time I was at petsmart and this couple was talking about buying a male and female betta and putting them together in a tank to see if they breed. I used to breed bettas so I naturally became a little more curious and glanced over at them. They were holding two male bettas in their plastic containers, thinking that they had picked the perfect male and female pair. I quickly interjected and told them what they actually had and that if they were really going to breed bettas, they better be prepared to have over 50 jars for the offspring when it comes time to separate them. They quickly decided to not buy a betta.

Another time I overheard an employee there tell a customer that the Pacu would be fine living in their 10 gallon tank with their guppies, for life. Again, I interjected and quickly told them otherwise. That the pacu will eventually become 3 times bigger than their little 10 gallon. Geez, people really need to do their research. Someone even wanted to raise a clown fish in one of the little plastic critter cages. -.-

once at a LFS a guy desparate for $ said an ID shark could go in my 29 for life! a 29 gallon!!!!!!

other than that he's pretty good with fish
