Ever since working at my store...i never knew working at a petstore would have so much drama...

Welcome to the world of retail. All of them are like that.

Funny though... what probably happen to that SW guy is that he bought his aquarium from a store that only carry one or two sizes.

You should have looked shocked and said...."Do they really make salt water tanks that are only 48" long?" LOL

I'm a gunsmith-get the same inane "stuff".

Young gent walks in, sez, "I need a clip for my nine"

"Nine what sir?"

"Nine MM!"

"'OK, make and model of gun?"

"Nine!"

Turns out it was a .380.....

:nilly:

It's all about appealing & selling to the lowest common denominator-the masses will buy & kill their fish quickly & need replacements...the few will order their fish from online sources, keep them in adequately sized tanks & eventually sell them to the like-minded-larger-tank initiates.

Then we'll buy some dry food from the local pet store or check out the trade in section (for the mis-labeled jewels-I mean nice fish , not just the "jewels").

You ever wonder why most online (successful) sellers don't have much time or patience answering mundane questions? That's why they're not working at a brick & mortar pet store-just their fish house out back.

But as noted above (and by others in this thread) it's those new/uninformed and smaller-tank-owners who keep the huge aquarium/fish business churning. If they stay with it, make their mistakes eventually they'll only be in to occasionally buy some fish food or to browse unassisted through the mislabeled or traded in fish...NOT THAT I'M SAYING THE FISH IN YOUR STORE ARE MISSED LABELED (but it happens).

whenever i am at a fish store and see people looking at the pacu i just want to smack them. 90% of the time that fish will end up stuck in a 29 or 55 gal from wal-mart. nothing against wal-mart 29 and 55 gal fishtanks (i have one) but people think a pacu can live in one for life! people are so retarded! they should'nt even be allowed to own a living animal. :nilly:

You know what I did? I punched her in her mouth and she flew through our 125 gallon display tank.

I would like to see that. Even if it never happened, it made me

At me petsmart, i have to constantly tell my employees to refuse sales if they feel the fish will die or do harm to existing fish in the customers tank. And last night some people came in and had dead angelfish. I asked what else they had, they said 2 needlefish, 3 irredescent sharks, 3 silvertip sharks, and 10 tiger bars,...IN A 29G!!! i was like well thats why you keep losing angelfish, to much movement and too many fish, asked when they did a water change said never in the 2 YEARS it has been setup, they just add when it gets low!!! I said well you do understand everything but the barbs will get atleast a foot, with the silvertips needing brackish water and eventually marine. They say, well we want to return the angels and get a blackghost knife and 2 pictus cats!! i said we can return these fish to you for store credit but i will need a water sample and personally i feel your tank is over crowded anyway and doesnt need more fish. They say well excuses us but sorry if we dont like our tanks looking like CRAP like you do then. Then i gave them there money back and said im sorry but i will have to ask you to leave the store now, we do not tolerate employee harassement like that. They left and that was that. Then i went to the girl who sold them the fish and ask why, and she said because they didnt care what i thought and ignored what i said so i just got them the fish so they would leave. I was like did you just see how i did that, DO THAT NEXT TIME so we dont have to keep replacing there dead, expensive fish, dang 14 day guarantee. Then she was like i dont think thats very smart because people will go to a LFS or petco. I was like really they will go to the LFS and pay $7 for a tiger barb half our size, or to petco and pay the same price for a fish covered in ick? She then said there just fish who cares, and i said apparently not you, so go clean out your locker, get your stuff, and go clock out, you know longer work for PetSMART.

My store has a rep for being very knowledgable about fish and reptile, mainly because i push those, and i didnt want someone who just needed a job to be working here. MAN I CANT WAIT TILL I GET OUT OF COLLEGE AND OPEN MY OWN FISH STORE!!!

Good for you. Fortunately for me, most of my employee's care and won't sell fish that are guaranteed to die.
