I was pretty darn sure softened water would be fine... but wanted to give those who felt otherwise a chance to state their reasonings...
ill have to try a softened water water change soon, and if it goes south, i can get new stock, and know for next time lol. itd just be easier to run a line from the bathroom across the hall rather than using buckets up my stairs
Keep in mind that sudden changes can cause problems...
So if you do a large water change with softened water things could go south... not because the softened water is bad, but just because it's different...

just need to get back to work so i can get this stuff over winter, luckily im going back to work tuesday 
so now im looking at the 30 gallon dual stand, linked above.
and a 30 gallon water change tank with powerhead only
andddd a 30 gallon tank with fluval canister filter, prolly a 205 or something like that. andddd an actinic bulb for lighting, for one special reason, not only just to have it dark.
