So we are looking at two 30 gallons.

What fish do you need to move over from yout 56 gallon, and what sort of fish are you looking to put in the tanks? Are you interested in a breeding fish, or just something to look at?

im interested in something that requires only tropical flakes, most likely tetras.

the fish that i NEED to move to the upper 30 gallons will be

5 cories
3 swordtails

breeding fish not preferred, dont really have a place for them to go

There is no fish that really thrives on tropical flakes, I would expect more of you mate .

Tetras wouldn't be a bad choice to go with the cories and swordtails. You could then add some smaller cichlid, like humpheads, apistos or rams. You could also get some shrimp in there too if you really wanted.

What are the plans for the bottom 30 gallon? I see you were talking about a 30gal water change tank, but not sure if you meant two 30 gallons for stocking, and one for water changes, or one 30 gallon for stocking, and the other for water changes. If the latter, you would be better putting the water change one on top, so you can siphon the clean water into the tank.

bottom thirty gallon tank is for water changes. top is for stocking. there will only be two thirty gallon tanks

my black tetras always went ape **** for flakes. it was quite the thing to watch, like mini pbass...... except without all the splashing
