  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How about the "short body" bichirs??

Or "bullet head'" palmas sp. "Fat Head"... weeksii??

Or do you (ladies) prefer the reg. common cylindrical shaped polys??

I've always like the protruding bottom jaw poly sp. myself. :)

I like their keen sense of smell. I have a tank that is filtered on the same system and when I feed that tank, the scent eventually makes it over to the tank my Bichirs are in and they will start sniffing out the source... they go nuts.
Yes haha...they actually look like their sniffing.... fish hunting dogs ..

i like how they carry themselves like they know they are diesel....and they are not to be messed with and how when my ornate wants attention he just splashes water on my pc.....ha ha and how the gar eats whole shrimp out of my hand...video in the lounge.

Well, I've come to the realization that the uglier the fish, the faster I take it home. I don't know, I started with some cute stuff to entertain the cats and then moved to discus (which I still have). However, my heart belongs to ugly, fat catfish and eels. Pretty fish are fine, but they get boring fast. I want something that is so odd you can't stop staring at it. I enjoy researching the environments they come from, and look at their physical and behavioral adaptations. They make you ask questions as simple as, "Why the hell does that thing look like that?" to "What aspects of their digestive systems allow their bodies to survive that kind of diet?" R1_Ridah: That's pretty much why I wanted that wonderful hybrid you had, but with my setup being changed around right now I was too afraid to be the one to kill that fabulous fish!

And besides, feeding time is hilarious chaos! My favorite fishies have big personalities too. When I walk up to my 180, my guys are at the top. Norbert, my fire eel, is sticking his head out of the water to see what I might have brought him, while the catfish are lumbering around following me from one side of the tank to the other. A lot of my guys, if they weren't confined to the water, would probably follow me around the house and sit on the couch with me.

My friends think I'm crazy, especially the ones I would consider less intelligent. (Did I just say that? Yes, and I don't take it back!) I think people that can enjoy the oddity of these guys and appreciate them for their uniqueness are more open minded, are more likely to ask questions before making snap judgments, and are generally more capable to step back and see beauty in many aspects of life. Who knew you could extrapolate this much from a fish!?!

haha thats great... loves those ugly fish... because they are so darn cute.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that bichirs are on the to get list, but first comes a bigger tank. My tanks are pack! But, i'd love to get one of those little guys and raise him up till he was a giant sausage.

Ok, reread that and yeah... But, don't go there. Don't want to kill a perfectly good thread. :)
