Well, I've come to the realization that the uglier the fish, the faster I take it home. I don't know, I started with some cute stuff to entertain the cats and then moved to discus (which I still have). However, my heart belongs to ugly, fat catfish and eels. Pretty fish are fine, but they get boring fast. I want something that is so odd you can't stop staring at it. I enjoy researching the environments they come from, and look at their physical and behavioral adaptations. They make you ask questions as simple as, "Why the hell does that thing look like that?" to "What aspects of their digestive systems allow their bodies to survive that kind of diet?" R1_Ridah: That's pretty much why I wanted that wonderful hybrid you had, but with my setup being changed around right now I was too afraid to be the one to kill that fabulous fish!
And besides, feeding time is hilarious chaos! My favorite fishies have big personalities too. When I walk up to my 180, my guys are at the top. Norbert, my fire eel, is sticking his head out of the water to see what I might have brought him, while the catfish are lumbering around following me from one side of the tank to the other. A lot of my guys, if they weren't confined to the water, would probably follow me around the house and sit on the couch with me.
My friends think I'm crazy, especially the ones I would consider less intelligent. (Did I just say that?

Yes, and I don't take it back!) I think people that can enjoy the oddity of these guys and appreciate them for their uniqueness are more open minded, are more likely to ask questions before making snap judgments, and are generally more capable to step back and see beauty in many aspects of life. Who knew you could extrapolate this much from a fish!?!
