Yup! My dear spouse has said in the past that sometimes I pay more attention to my aquatic pets.

hmmm...that's just illogical. At least the fish keep you at home. you could be at the strip club.

Unless there is a monster tank AT the strip club!!!!

YEAP my gf is more concerned about the $$$ aspect of it. And I also brought up the fact "Well I could be spending on a stripper" That didnt go over very well.

Sorry...geography is in no way a strong point for me. Me saying "the island" there was based on the fact that my mother goes to Costa Rica four times a year and she always stays on an island...I guess I assumed based off that one reference that Costa Rica was a series of islands like Japan or Hawaii. Again I apologize for my ignorance

That being said I was not insulting you or making any assumptions regarding your relationship. I was just asking a question. You could have simply replied that you do take her out.

Yes. It is true that women seek attention to some degree but it's not as if men are any different. Women want to feel like men want to have sex with them which is good because men like to have sex. If women did not have an urge to feel attractive and wanted then you guys would never get consensual sex.

The reason I was asking is that it just seems so unreasonable to me to get upset about this kind of thing...

My hubby lets me have all the tanks I want and I let him turn every extra corner in the house to grow produce. Our living room alone looks like a Chile jungle and I don't care because He's happy...I guess our house does not look traditional and our electric bills are high considering the amount of plant lights but I love him and all his eccentrics.

I guess some women are just a little high strung and I cannot understand why someone would want to waste so much time being angry over something that keeps the person they love happy.

Hey, i wasnt trying to be a **** or anything, some people confuses us with puerto rico, I just thought it was funny.

I guess the point I was trying to get across is that this is not such a big deal in my relationship, and I just got the feeling that you were assuming that I didnt pay enough attn to my GF from my post.

I think part of the reason she doesnt get mad at me is because like I said this is a thing we share, so when I spend money on it, she totally gets why I want more/bigger/better fish, equipment etc.

Im pretty sure If I was spending money on a different hobby, like tunning my car or whatever, she wouldnt like it. Im sure all the people that post here that they get in trouble for spending in their tanks, their couple probably doesnt understand the hobby at all.

Once in high school I told my mom : hey at least its not crack, that didn't went too well either.

well being as I have 60ish tanks running, I guess I am in the minority as a female. I am greatful my husband puts up with it though as he does not keep any fish.

I happen to be a lucky one too.
My wife has no limits on the aquariums I have, loves watching the fish, and will feed them when I'm away. She also put up with 8 years of financial stress as I pursued my dream of owning an aquarium store.
She also got me hooked onto ropefish (she insisted I buy them when she saw them) which led to my fascination with bichirs.
To top it all off, I commented the other night while looking through some of the larger tanks on this site, that it would be nice to have an 8'x4' tank in the basement. She said "Sure". :)

Nice, JamesF! The happiest couples are the ones that support each other, fo sho :P

Well, the next best thing is to learn to compromise...

I have a 110 gallon and wanted a second 135. Wife doesn't want a second tank in the house. So after much discussion, she gave me a space that measures 96 by 28 but I have to get rid of the 110 when I get the new tank...

I don't think she realizes I am planning to put a 240 in that space(I can do a 300 but it would stick out a little and if my son runs into the tank(he does that occasionally) and bump his head, I would never hear the end of it.

Keeping fish keeps me out of my wifes hair. We only own one television so she gets to watch what ever her heart desires and fish keeping keeps me home. Unless my Lakers are playing.

I believe it comes down to passion. If one is passionate about this hobby, not only will they find the best care for the fish but in turn make it look attractive/clean so the wife/husband does not mind the mess and find compromise for this hobby. But if your the type of person that gets in to things half arsed and do a sloppy job along the way. Who would want to look @ a tank that is not cared for?

Here is a compromise I am dealing with atm. I want a 450g tank but she wants says there are other things to spend on right now like her diamond sandwich. Guess this is what they want when the 10 year anni is coming at the end of the year.
