my dobie is very much the same... they are

she is so loveable........ needs your attention but not needy...will quard you with their life..talk to you in long sounds when they want something... sleep and hang out with you if you are sick.......... she puts her big rubber bone on the side of my pillow so i will share it with her.. i open my eyes to this big red thing in my face..lol..... will not wake you abruptly but instead stares at your face until you feel her power... you can take a raw bone away from her at any time.. she is always willing to share it with me... a superior wonderful breed... so unbelieveably smart.. knows all the cunning ways to get the collie up.. just looking at him with her eyes.. never mean.. but very dominate... she is the dobes..... yes once you have one you never for get them... this is my 4th dobie..
OMG. you just described my girl too. they do know how to stare! and make barely audible, but un-ignorable throat moans.?
Mine was a gift from a very wealthy restaurant owner whose wife didn't want the jogging partner he had before marrying her.
I'm sure she was top bloodlines.
I would've ditched the human. Lol.

I see Barbara, but not wanting to take the convo to where it cannot go, is it treated differently than if you defend your home with a firearm?

In here, dog accidents and lawsuits also happen, the same, but mostly in urban places with urban people and badly kept and bred breeds. It is mostly a suburb issue.

In the countryside, dogs defend their place. No one in his right mind would enter my farm at night without us knowing said person was coming..

If we did not know, its intent would be a mean one. And those guys have no knowledge to resort to the courts.

Only thing i cannot controll is poison. And it happens a lot.

Miguel, you know darn well that guns don't have a mind of their own to go off independent of a handler.

I mentioned USA lawsuits because I don't believe that most Americans are capable of properly owning the farm breeds you describe. Self motivated breeds are a whole different beast.

No. You did not get my point. Am not into that debate.

I mean from a legal perspective, you consider that you are on safer grounds shooting a robber than having your dog attacking it? In your property, in both cases?

my point is, at least that would all up to my own judgement. I'd be solely responsible for the decision.
not so with dogs. IMO, people damn well better choose the right ones. that could be where their control ends if the dog has more mind than their humans.

You are right there.

if you must have either a YES or NO reply. I'd say Yes, on safer grounds.
States & individual courts notwithstanding, citizens generally only shoot at true threats. if a robber falls down inside my home, I am safe. both ways ;-) legally and physically. robber probably dead. who's gonna sue? his family, with his blood all over my walls- really doubt that.
Dogs however, can't testify as to the level of threat, aren't gonna kill the guy. he can sue for "undeserved" injury, dangerous dog. plus dogs often bite unjustifiably, that is a high percentage of truth.

homeowners or other honest, threatened citizens generally have a higher level of personal deterrent against shooting for anything less than absolute undeniable just cause. then, we're not worried about lawsuits! we know that a false shoot/self defense will put US in jail.

I find your reasoning perfectly logical. Was just asking for your opinion.

basically to remain on topic. I'm just entering an observation that the abundance of AKC breed dogs labeled Working, while having lost any self-motivation to perform jobs, has resulted in people being largely unprepared to really handle dogs that still have real drive. these dogs need to work, it's not optional. be careful when searching for the "real thing", that you are taught & able to raise & control them.
Ask any rescue organization for Working breeds.
