OMG. you just described my girl too. they do know how to stare! and make barely audible, but un-ignorable throat moans.?
Mine was a gift from a very wealthy restaurant owner whose wife didn't want the jogging partner he had before marrying her.
I'm sure she was top bloodlines.
I would've ditched the human. Lol.

they all carry these wonderful special traits.. and then they all have a little individuality which really takes them over the top.

Please lets not tred into areas the thread was not intended to go. I like all the partisapation so let stay foucused on this topic.

basically to remain on topic. I'm just entering an observation that the abundance of AKC breed dogs labeled Working, while having lost any self-motivation to perform jobs, has resulted in people being largely unprepared to really handle dogs that still have real drive. these dogs need to work, it's not optional. be careful when searching for the "real thing", that you are taught & able to raise & control them.
Ask any rescue organization for Working breeds.

This however is an excelent point. Right on topic. Thanks

The slight detour on the conversation was mine. But it was, imho, within the object of property guarding, and the inherent liabilities.

Sorry.

And what Barbara states is aboslutely true.

It already is clear to everybody that big dogs have no place in cities, anymore, most unfortunately, in this modern society of iurs...unfortunately.

I would much prefer being a dog guarding cattle in the lost confines of Mongolia than a pampered german sheppard in NYC....IF i were a dog, that is.....

one of my brothers got some GS dogs from direct imported working lines. he did not ingrain submissive obedience over the guarding instincts-which does gain intensity as dogs age. there have been several bites. for various reasons, not reported to authorities so he kept the offending dog. it bit our other brother, and passers-by. my owning bro tells people what moves they can't make around her & thinks she has been justified on bites.
the dog is not vicious, but very alpha. at least one of her pups is in police work. but my bro had NO business with that kind of animal. A mutual friend told him, after getting the "warning rules" that if she bites him, he will shoot her himself. and I don't blame him one bit. (because the owner knows dog will bite, it is HIS responsibility to prevent that. not tell someone "move slowly". Lol)
I'm glad she is old & not much time left, TBH. if he replaces her with same kind, he will have liability issues.

On other side of fence, I have had to rehome livestock dogs for their own benefit, when my ability to provide them a job changed. it is kindest for the animal to know when all you can provide is companionship and your dog requires more than that.
